Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Can You Believe That College Football Is Right Around The Corner?

We were just getting into summer. Now, school is already starting for the kiddos out there where you are, and even where you aren't.

Labor Day is fast approaching, and with that comes the start of yet another college football season. I'll be cheering on my Texas Longhorns, who have got to recover from an embarrassing 5-7 campaign last year with then-first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorn faithful are not a patient bunch, and I just know that, at...

Case And The Drinking Fountain Capers

When your writer needs a drink and he has no access to his water bottle (which, likely, is in my car), all he's got to do is stop by a water fountain for a swig.

But there are conditions....

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. There must be conditions for me to drink out of a water fountain. You see, the stream which emerges from the vertical spout has to go higher than that guard next to it. If it's lower than the guard, then I won't drink from that...

Tracing Old Highways And Revisiting History

Posted 08-22-2022 at 07:55 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, different resources can be good friends when one is curious.

Earlier this evening, I decided to take an online stroll on Google Street View to take a look at some excerpts of old highways which used to actually be the Mother Road of the many areas they happened to pass through. My curiosity took me to Far West Texas, in and out of the El Paso region. The former U.S. Highway 80 once had its glory days. The highway would stretch from Savannah, Georgia, all...

Peanuts And Chocolate Go Great Together

Posted 08-20-2022 at 09:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Your writer just could not help himself. That most recent trip to the grocery found this Texas gizzard with another bag to take home.

The bag in question contained some M&M's. Not just any M&M's, but peanut M&M's. In between the healthy things like salad and yogurt, why not something that just has nuts in it? And a peanut M&M does the trick.

Whether I get the aforementioned, or perhaps some Russell Stover or Dove or Hershey or...

Imagine An Allsup's Without Gas Pumps....

Posted 08-16-2022 at 08:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A prominent West Texas convenience store chain has simply decided to stick its neck out and do something different. So, when Allsup's finally chose to take that dive into the Lubbock cityscape, it did so with what it would rather be known for instead what would have been obvious.

You see, Allsup's typically has the convenience store and the gas pump. For whatever reason, the chain ventured into Lubbock and made the choice to put itself in an unusual location, prompting...
