Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Lubbock Is Texas' 10th-Largest City --- Or Is It?

Posted 01-03-2023 at 06:56 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The internet. Sometimes, you've got to love it. Other times, well, you'd feel like chucking a rock at your computer screen.

We just want information on things, but some sources make you wonder where the numbers actually come from. This holds true in gathering population figures. You see different kinds of lists out there. While census figures from 2021 might not necessarily be wrong, it's the afterwards of it that bring so much debate.

Population...

Even The Moon Deserves A Baseball Now And Then

With only a month and a half before baseballers head off to Spring Training in Florida and Arizona, Ol' Case can't keep away from watching old yard highlights. And his favorite team is still basking in the glow of its second World Series championship.

Houston Astros highlights just never get old. And neither, too, do Yordan Alvarez home runs. So, I bring up YouTube and watch one of the longest (if not the highest) home runs ever hit at Minute Maid Park. This shot...

Calendar Changing And Christmas Gifts: The Stuff Of Holiday Life

Posted 01-01-2023 at 07:29 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

While I'm still unwrapping a few of my Christmas gifts --- and I'm sure you've still got a few to get to --- I'm also turning the calendar page and penning things for later in the New Year. Yes, that time is here.

Among my to-do things in the Case abode is to replace my old calendar and put in a new one. I have to admit, though, I do miss the pictures from every calendar I've ever had in my kitchen. They're part of the reason I even get calendars in the first place....

Lubbock's Hotel Mystery And Suspense Deepens

Posted 12-29-2022 at 07:51 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A few days ago, I uncovered what had been a mystery on the Lubbock hotel landscape, and that might actually come to fruition once again. I shared in my recent Scattershooting about Downtown Lubbock plans for a convention center hotel and the possibility of it being back on after visiting the backburner.

Well, a local hospitality and planning website from the Hub City now shows that another project may possibly be on again. The TAJ website is shedding light on something...
