Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Ain't It Great Having Reggie With The Astros? I Think So

Posted 02-02-2023 at 07:29 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

He became a legend during his playing career. And now, Reggie Jackson has really come full circle.

We'll skip everything you already know about Reggie, but I want to share something that some of you may not know. The man known as Mr October has spent much of the last two seasons as an advisor to Jim Crane with the Houston Astros after serving in the same capacity with the New York Yankees. And like his playing days, Reggie just can't stay away from championships,...

Celebrating National Hot Chocolate Day In, Perhaps, The Most Appropriate Way

Posted 01-31-2023 at 06:35 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Here's a blueprint for what I'm revealing here: It's colder than usual outside, there is freezing rain, and your writer has to miss work because of the ensuing conditions. And, no, I don't work remote, but that's not important now.

I just heard on Phlash Phelps' radio show that today is National Hot Chocolate Day in America. How apropos. There's no choice but to stay inside this warm abode. Rather than get my Shark hit by another car or for me to slide uncontrollably...

Dallas' WRR-FM Is Entering A New Era

Posted 01-29-2023 at 07:25 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The oldest call letters in Dallas have ushered in a brand-new era of programming. This new era began on New Year's Day. And, no, they didn't abandon their classical music format; in fact, they've redefined it.

WRR-FM (101.1) has entered into a new partnership with KERA-FM (90.1) to an expanded music emphasis in its programming, thus ending its commercial broadcast run. No longer will you hear commercials from local piano companies or the Dallas Opera or whatnot, ...

What You Thought It Said Versus What It Really Said

Posted 01-28-2023 at 08:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You know that it's almost bedtime when you just can't read straight. There was an intriguing food ad I found in Pinterest, but I originally thought, "That's a strange way to promote chicken stew."

Unless, of course, you happen to be a skeptical cook.

Nonetheless, I'm not, but when I looked at that caption a writer wrote below the ad, I read that as saying "Fuel your fear....". And after the startled reaction, your writer had to...

North Beach In Corpus Needs More Action And Less Talk

Posted 01-26-2023 at 07:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Corpus Christi, Texas, is a city with quite a bit to offer.........and yet, it still comes up short. I bring this up because one key piece of the area is still woefully lagging behind the rest of the city in bringing in new tourists.

I'm talking about Corpus' North Beach district. It's got the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium as its features, along with some beachfront, but much of the remaining development in that area is blight. And who wants to vacation...
