Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

On Vacation Again: My Latest Road Trip Update

Posted 10-20-2009 at 07:21 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 10-21-2009 at 07:23 PM by case44

Well, gang, here I am in beautiful Houston, Texas, and in the middle of yet another road trip. This time, it's a road trip with vacation written all over it. I'm doing a Texas triangle of sorts, case44-style. Right now, I am staying three nights here in H-town after spending Monday night in Austin.

Earlier today (Tuesday, October 20), I took some time to stop in Brenham, Texas, at the Blue Bell Creamery. I had the opportunity to take a guided...

Don't Book 'em, Danno: No More Oldie Remakes

Posted 10-13-2009 at 01:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As if the major broadcast TV networks didn't already have enough negative baggage to deal with (dwindling audiences, bad writers, poor acting, what have you), we get the following news from CBS: They're doing a remake of the old "Hawaii Five-O" series. What the...? Another remake of yet another old show?? More grumblings from those still thirsting for new ideas from an industry practically fresh out of them.

That's just it, folks. Need any more...

The Most Important Letter In My Medicine Cabinet

Posted 10-10-2009 at 04:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Let's face it. When winter arrives and the rest of the world catches colds and influenza, I'll be one hundred percent prepared for the occasion. Actually, about one hundred one. Last year had seen me sick for just three days, and it was nothing. I only wish I had taken this crucial action all those years before, but that's not important now.

In my medicine cabinet amid all the pain relievers and remedies, you will find three important containers which have...

Search Party For Aisle 5

Posted 10-02-2009 at 11:28 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Funny how, when you go to the grocery store, the one thing that you look for more than anything else, they don't have. And anyone can go to any grocery store or supermarket and get most things they want and then, when it matters most, the stock runs out on a product when the needed product being searched for.......

.......is a package of coffee filters for 1-4 cups.

So, that was the predicament I found myself in at the local supermarket...

Lake Travis: Will It Ever Rise Again?

Posted 09-26-2009 at 04:54 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As many of you Texas readers know, we pride ourselves on our lakes, what with their majesty, beauty, and power that each possesses. They are places people make memories at, with sunsets, boat rides, big splashes, the fish they catch, and the ones that got away. And they are also our big resources for water supply.

That said, there is one lake that is really taking a big hit from the longest drought in the country in the last two years. It is a lake I...
