Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Ever Pray For Rain........And Got It??

Where I live, in North Texas, we've had a long drought all over my region for the past few months. Meteorologists everywhere were saying that it could go on all winter. I could live without snow, personally, but we have needed rain. It wasn't in the forecast earlier in the week.

Lo, and behold, what exactly did happen in my hometown on Friday? Rain. Long stretches of it. The National Weather Service snuck the rain into the forecast Thursday, thanks...

Just One Of Many Songs Still Not Heard

Posted 12-22-2010 at 07:02 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There was this weird sensation I experienced just a moment ago. When I streamline different radio stations on the Internet, it's absolutely incredible what I can run into. So, when an unfamiliar Bee Gees song hit the airwaves on "The Mike Harvey Show" on Lubbock's KKCL-FM (98.1), something happened that doesn't happen very often: I want to hear it again.

Okay, those moments happen more often than I care to admit, but since I'm a big Bee Gees fan,...

Learning To Read In The Weirdest Way

Posted 12-11-2010 at 04:23 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Getting out of bed this morning, I had one of those flashback moments. It was spent recalling how I learned to read as a little tyke, and as I recall, it's one of the durndest things that you probably wouldn't believe.

Way back when, I remember my mother telling me that I could read on sixth-grade level as a first-grader. But, even before that, there may be a reason as to why that came about. As a 2-year-old, the TV set was right in front of me, and I still...

Life Without The Internet? No Way, And Don't Ask Me To Switch Back

Posted 12-02-2010 at 02:24 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Remember how things were? Was there really such a thing as "the Good Old Days"? I mean, look at all of us today. We're probably better-prepared people today than ever before. Why? Because I use the Internet to plan things now. And, yes, so do you.

Before this thing called the Internet came along, you had to hear about things by ear. You had to wait for a traffic report on the radio. You had to wait for a weather report on TV (especially...

Thoughts On Black Friday, Old Man Winter, And Thinning Up

Even though there are those who wake up when many are going to bed just so they can take advantage of being the first shoppers to darken the entrance of a store, I didn't have to be one of them. I'll eventually get to that shopping mall or store long after I rise from bed, which was actually a bit of a challenge this morning, as that space heater on the floor really kept me in bed well after the alarm went off. It helps you sleep..............real hard.

I had my coffee,...
