Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Fire-Ravaged Areas Getting Much-Needed Rain

Posted 04-23-2011 at 07:05 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As I'm writing this, some intense lightning and thunder are looming in my neighborhood right now. Approaching thunderstorms are developing in my area and many points west of it. Even though spring means thunderstorms, this is one of those times where some people can actually do without thunder and the accompanying lightning.

I'm thinking about places like Wichita Falls and Possum Kingdom in North Texas. Those places lost a number of homes due to wildfires caused by...

A Case-Owned Steakhouse? Idea Number Two: Fine Dining

Posted 04-23-2011 at 10:47 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sorry it took so long. I've been promising this piece for a while and had other things go on, but it's what you've all been waiting for. So, now, here it is.

If I were to own a steakhouse, be it in the form of an umbrella of different restaurants or just one place, I've often envisioned what a fine dining establishment of my desire might look like. Previously, I've shared the informal, the one where the whole family can go for great Texas food. It's...

The Class Of 1980 Turns 50, And How Surreal Is That?

Posted 04-22-2011 at 05:53 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You know how, over time, attitudes change and people change? It just seems like yesterday that anyone who graduated from high school in the 1980s was moving into their twenties in age. Now, we are heading into our ---- (gulp!) ---- fifties! Time flies, dud-nit?

The Class of 1980 was a group of then-high-schoolers that graduated four years before my class did. Significantly, it was the first graduating class of the decade of the 1980s and some of the last...

Case's Vacation Journal: Katz's 'Klosed' After All

Posted 04-04-2011 at 03:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, here it is, another exciting road trip, and where better than in my home state of Texas? Your favorite blogger is observing and absorbing everything he can get his eyes.......and hands..........on.

My latest adventure takes me to Austin, Texas, where we've had overcast conditions for yesterday and the first part of today, giving way to beautiful sunshine. Picture-taking and sightseeing have been the orders of the day for first couple. Good food at...

Scattershooting Once More / Some Thoughts On The Japan Crisis

Posted 03-30-2011 at 06:33 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Here we go again. Time for yet another round of scattershooting, as I go here, there, and everywhere more often than those college basketball players at the Final Four. So let's all gather around the computer campfire and roast a few marshmallows while I shoot the breeze with you.

********

There are not enough words in the English language that can adequately express how we all feel about the recent events in Japan. An earthquake which caused a large...
