Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

case44

Out Of The Frying Pan.........Back INTO The Frying Pan?

Posted 08-05-2011 at 08:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sooner or later, I just knew that Texas was going to be setting or threatening to set record highs rivaling those which happened back in the deathly hot summer of 1980. Every year for the past few, I've wondered which would be the year for the really, really, really hot summer where we try to surpass, oh, Death Valley.

This year has become one hot year at home. Highs this week have been near 110. The same is expected for next week. Since I'm heading...

The 2011 MDA Labor Day Telethon: A Follow-Up

Posted 08-04-2011 at 05:03 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

In this follow-up to a previous blog post from a few months back, everybody deserves a last time for big traditions when things must one day come to an end. Just when you think stars do what they do for what seems like forever, well, it doesn't really work that way. There will be a last time for something. Always. That's just the way life is. Sadly, some last times occur when we've already experienced them because of decisions ---- sometimes even ridiculous ones ----...

Maybe Methuselah 44 Should Be My New Username

Posted 07-29-2011 at 08:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You know you are in a mid-life crisis when you suddenly realize that you are there. I can see the jokes pouring in, although I'll admit that some folks are too kind, so they just keep to themselves.

Okay, I'm not as old as the exaggerated title would suggest, but I'm not getting any younger, either. Perhaps I should just be resigned to the fact that the gray hairs are here to stay and I don't run as fast as I used to. Questions from all over could be asked...

Houston Radio Airwaves: Are They Sinking Into The Gulf?

Posted 07-23-2011 at 10:39 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

For a good many years, I had always looked forward to getting in the car and heading for Houston and the Gulf Coast region for various trips. Since I am somewhat of a radio guru (not a complete expert, mind you), I would study each market and set my AM and FM dial settings according to whatever I wanted to in the city in which I'd travel. And Houston was never an exception, since it, for years, had been one of America's great markets for radio and had some of the best programming,...

Scattershooting Again / Rotten Ralph, We'll Miss You

Posted 07-09-2011 at 07:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Welcome back again. And this thing is long overdue, because it's way past time to do some more scattershooting on Case's Column. So, let's gather around our computer campfire and if you've got the marshmallows, then I've got the time.

********

Unfortunately, I must begin on a somber note, and it's about a very special person whom I didn't get to know well enough. He's a second cousin in my family who lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and he served...
