Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Reminiscing With An Old Radio Friend

Posted 10-16-2011 at 06:43 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This thing called the Internet unearths so many things that all you could previously do, once upon a time, is just dream about them. Collectors' items simply abound on the world-wide web, and you sometimes find things you just happen to be looking for. Years ago, when I attended high school, things were different in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. And this is where the Internet actually steps in and works its magic.

As a fan of radio the way it used to be,...

The Cheerful Giver: Everybody Likes That Guy

Posted 10-12-2011 at 03:31 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Once upon a long time ago or thereabouts, I did a blog column on traditions, particularly those that applied to my workplace. There's one tradition that I still so gladly embark in week after week. And it never, ever gets old.

Every Wednesday is Hump Day, and every Hump Day means I bring a package of cookies to work (well, the weeks that I'm not on vacation or absent). And there is great joy in giving. I have a tendency to take things for granted too often....

Some Teams Win, And Two Others Collapse Big-Time

Chances are, if you watched or listened to any football this past weekend, your favorite team came out with a victory. Others of you, you may have experienced defeat. If you were a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and/or the Texas A&M Aggies, then you probably have gone to work this morning with a paper bag over your head.

Yes, you all wondered, "Good grief! What was that??!" I couldn't believe it, either. Never mind that my Texas Longhorns...

It's Not A Drought-Buster, But We'll Take It

Posted 09-17-2011 at 08:58 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It goes without saying that Texas needs rain. Lots of rain. I mean, lots and lots and lots..........well, you get the idea. So, what happens on a Friday when I wanted to go to a high school football game? No sign of sunshine, partner. Just some low-lying rain clouds and moderate rain and ................lightning!

Well, that's the breaks when you want to have some Friday night fun. I decided to turn around and go back from Frisco to the...

Scattershooting Again / Astros Are Setting A New Record

Posted 09-17-2011 at 08:48 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Here we go once more with a little scattershooting as I continue my weekend. But whichever time you do read this, hopefully, you'll just enjoy the tasty tidbits which are part of life in general. So, let us proceed with this, shall we?

********

The Houston Astros are my baseball team of choice. They've been a successful franchise for fifty years, although not quite to the same degree as the New York Yankees. It's also the more successful of...
