Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Always Good To Have Time Off

Posted 11-13-2011 at 05:27 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's Sunday morning, and normally at this time, I'd be slaving away at work. Not this morning, however. But it gives me pause to just stop and think and give thanks for the opportunity to take a little time off.

Someone out there has said that we should never, ever take things for granted. Right now happens to be one of those times. And whoever it was that said it has got to be the wisest person in the world. Yes, I know what you're going to tell me:...

Case's Food Reviews: Installment Four

This restaurant has been passed by many a time when I'm trekking into Frisco, Texas, from my apartment. So, tonight became sometime. Enough time had simply gone by, and this writer needed to have something different for dinner this very evening. I needed to give Kenny's Burger Joint a try.

Located near the Sam Rayburn Tollway (State Highway 121) and Legacy Drive in the Stonebriar section of Frisco, this modern burger hangout is definitely not a hole-in-the-wall...

It's About Time Houston Had Some Good News

Posted 11-05-2011 at 08:53 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I never thought I'd see the day where what I'm about to tell you would happen. Recently in Case's Column, I wrote about the travails of Houston's radio airwaves. What I'm about to unveil is some good news, at least for those wishing to see a void filled.

Here's that news for you: We are seeing a format change on 92.1 FM in Houston (the city of license is Seabrook). KROI had been a black gospel station, and was previously KRTS, the great classical station. ...

Memo To Selig: Leave Things As They Are

Posted 10-29-2011 at 09:09 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Some brief thoughts right now on the Houston Astros and what may be a possible move to the American League. It's not a done deal yet, but I wish Major League Baseball and commissioner Bud Selig would reconsider this idea. Do we really have to have two 15-team leagues?

If that were the case, we'd have somebody playing interleague every day. The Astros are the team being considered for a possible move to (~gulp~) the American League in a plan to even out all...

Diamond Thoughts From Rangerville: Seven Is Not A Lucky Number After All

Posted 10-29-2011 at 08:46 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Baseball can be a funny game sometimes, as a wise man named Joe Garagiola used to say on television. The Texas Rangers are a team that sees why that is, as they just lost their second World Series in a row, this time at the hands of the St Louis Cardinals.

So, here is how it is: Texas teams are now 0-3 in World Series action. I can hear this big sigh of relief from Houston Astros fans this morning, but it's sometimes hard to know which team they actually rooted...
