Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

case44

New Interstate Makes Lone Star Inroads

Posted 12-08-2011 at 02:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It finally came. For about 20 years, Texans have been waiting and wondering when the next interstate highway would arrive and what it would be. The day finally came, all right. This past Monday, to be exact.

After years of talk and planning, Interstate 69 has made its way into Texas. The first stretch to get the ribbon-cutting consists of six and a half miles of freeway concrete from Robstown and State Highway 44 up to Interstate 37 northwest of Corpus Christi....

Something To Be Said About Texas Frontage Roads

Posted 11-30-2011 at 06:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Traffic jams can be common in the many big cities in my lovely home state of Texas. Unlike other states, we have a way to get around serious tie-ups that render the traveler........., dare I say, unmoving.

Most of the freeway miles in our cities and even some smaller towns have what we call frontage roads; in other words, side roads feeding traffic onto the freeways or receiving incoming exiters to allow vehicles to travel to connecting streets. What a concept!...

This past week, I reached a milestone during my time here at City-Data. It reflects the fact that many people come on here from all walks of life and browse, read, and think through all the posts, as well as listen to people's YouTubes. You take the time to do stuff like that, and so, it's up to people like me to help make that experience worthwhile.

My posts on the forums have reached ten million views in a period of four-plus years that I've been a part of this....

Giving Thanks While Overcoming Certain Circumstances

Posted 11-24-2011 at 07:17 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 11-24-2011 at 08:21 AM by case44

Amazing, isn't it, how things cannot possibly get done when you don't have a computer at your disposal? Thankfully, I was able to get this precious commodity back in time for the holiday season. Last Thursday night, my computer just froze. Couldn't Alt-Control-Delete or anything else. I called Time Warner to seek a fix for the problem the next day, only to be told that someone won't be at my place for another................six days?? The agony of six days of waiting for...

How Classic Country On Radio SHOULD Be Defined

Posted 11-13-2011 at 08:12 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Radio is an ever-evolving, ever-changing medium, and there's simply no escaping it. Over periods of time, formats change among many genres. You've probably spent time listening to country music at some point, but do you remember a time when all popular music and all genres were condensed into one format and played on one station?? Hard to believe, but in another era, there actually was such a thing. Of course, those days are long gone.

Today, we can...
