Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

case44

Lessons Burned ---- Er, Learned ---- From My Kitchen

Posted 01-22-2012 at 02:54 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, even making a little breakfast at the Case abode can make for some great comedy at 4:30 in the morning. That's because things might not go the way they were planned. When it comes to things like cinnamon rolls, it shouldn't be that hard to get them right once the oven buzzer goes off.

I'm still learning about surfaces and temperature adjustments even after making said breakfast items and other things a few hundred times. This morning, I should have...

The Sixties: Still The Best Decade For Music

Posted 01-22-2012 at 02:39 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Every opportunity to do posts on our Music forum lends itself to a sense of adventure. The challenge is to always come up with something new and fresh. And that could come whenever you choose something from almost any decade and any genre. Artists tend to come to mind more quickly, but sometimes you have a song that you can't get off of your mind. And you have to put it down, or else, you'd lose it.

Whichever I choose, I still think that some of my absolute favorite...

Maybe There Won't Be A Winter This Year In North Texas

Posted 01-18-2012 at 07:07 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

If you were shocked by the title of this latest chickenscratch on Case's Column, then you don't live in my part of the country. Chances are good that, if things don't consistently get colder more often, we just might see a bumper crop of wall-to-wall Texas bluebonnets in February.

Here's the startling news you've waited for all season: We just haven't really had much of a winter in North Texas. For that matter, said weather matters extend all throughout...

Erskine Street: The Next NEEDED East-West Route In Lubbock

Posted 01-18-2012 at 04:09 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The more I think about it, the more I want to draw colored lines on an already-prepared map. There's always the thought of 'what if?' as I think about a piece of road that travels through the northern section of Lubbock, Texas. It's a street that should be a bigger player for the city than it has been.

Erskine Street in Lubbock is catching up to the times and the needs of residents only now. Its biggest presence occurs on that city's northwest side, where it's just...

It Was A History-Making Season In Houston

Posted 01-15-2012 at 04:11 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

After the Houston Texans saw their historic season end in Baltimore today, it did set the table for future NFL seasons to come. The 10-year-old franchise finally made it to the playoff dance this year, winning big at Reliant Stadium last weekend, and then losing in Baltimore, 20-13 to the Ravens.

Still, this is something. Head coach Gary Kubiak has plenty of things to be proud of in a season of quite a few firsts. The Texans had many key players injured at some...
