Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Hey, Waiter, How About A Sample Of Spillage?

Posted 02-06-2012 at 06:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Even if the entree I order at Olive Garden might be different than the one I had before, the other items stay the same: breadsticks, salad, iced tea, and a sample glass of the wine of the day. And wine samples do vary on most visits. Today, it was a red Principato.

Good choice that it is, I asked my waiter for today to pour me a sample. It was all I'd have for today, as my money is tight and I cannot get a full glass of wine. Maybe next visit, but...

Time Once Again For The Annual Super Bowl Frenzy

Posted 02-04-2012 at 07:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I've got stuff in the freezer and the fridge because I simply have decided not to order pizza. I'll be alone after work on Sunday, so what does it matter? And wherever you are, it's about Super Bowl time.

The New England Patriots. The New York Giants. Same stage, one champion. All or nothing. And it's ours on Sunday night on a TV near us. We'll have Al and Cris call the game on NBC, and all the bells and whistles that one could ever ask...

Sometimes in your life, you have things happen to you and, occasionally, something will get you when you least expect it but don't know how it happened. That is the experience I am facing with a dead tooth on the lower bridge of my very handsome mouth. The problem is, I'm not sure how it happened or what caused it. I've been to see my dentist this morning and he referred me to a specialist to take care of the aforementioned dead tooth. That's right, sports fans. I've...

Let's Let The Spraying Begin

You know it's going to be a mild winter when the exterminators have decided to show up at the apartment on the next-to-last day in January instead of, say, March. No need for Raid when you've got pest control making their ways over to the Case abode sometime tomorrow. I have not seen any bugs as yet, but then, why would I see any now?

Technically, the calendar says that it's still winter, so it's usually not the time for bugs to come over and bug me. ...

More Scattershooting / Where Does The Speed Limit Really Cap Off?

Here it is, time to do more scattershooting just for you on Case's Column. I've got stuff flying all over the place that you probably need to duck. Nonetheless, we'll keep each other good company right here. Let me let 'er rip!

Once upon a few years ago, Texas highway officials raised speed limits on our rural Texas highways (most notably, the interstates) to 70 miles per hour. At the time, it didn't seem to bother me and I was...
