Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Well, here is your trusty writer once again with another Thought For The Day. If you think laughter is the best medicine, then you'll be encouraged, perhaps, by its outcome.

He who laughs, lasts.

Two San Antonio Traditions: An Anniversary, A New Home, And A State Of Flux

I'm reminded of how things used to be in the great state of Texas. Recently, I saw a YouTube video of something shown on San Antonio television back in the 1960s, and it was a report on a what was then a new development in the city in conjunction with the 1968 World's Fair. That area happened to host it, but they wanted something special tied to it.

HemisFair '68. Genius.

And then shortly thereafter, I was also reminded of a 90-year-old restaurant...

Next Month: A Week With The Masters And The Master

Posted 03-29-2023 at 07:25 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I guess you could say it's a holy week for Christians and golf enthusiasts. Sorry if I get slapped for this, but as it is....

April is coming, and your writer will be taking a few days off from work. Just so happens that it's not just Holy Week during the first full week of that month, but it will also see The Masters getting going for another set of rounds at Augusta National. They're scheduled for that same week. This year, anyway, as every year is a...

What Constructive Thing Is The Far Left Accomplishing?

Posted 03-29-2023 at 05:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 03-29-2023 at 06:28 PM by case44

Populism is coming. It's rising up in other parts of the world. Why? Because other countries are at their wit's end with the far left.

America should see something like populism rising up right here. You're just not seeing that in the forefront at this time. Getting in the way of that has been the far left in this country, what with their bullying of fellow Americans just to get what they want while getting rich off of you and I, the taxpayers. What we're all...

Library Etiquette Seems To Be Disappearing From Life

Posted 03-28-2023 at 04:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Back in a different day, when you walked into a library, the standard element which you experienced was that it was quiet. I mean, you could not even hear a pin drop.

The library would always be a quiet zone for readers or anyone browsing books, newspapers, or magazines. If a child were to speak above a whisper, lo and behold, your trusty librarian would always go, "Ssssshhhhhh!" During my childhood and adolescent years, that was a common...
