Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Is Old Man Winter Trying To Break Down My Door?

Posted 10-26-2012 at 07:25 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

He's trying to, but he won't break it down yet. The northern half of the U.S., however, has already had his early visit. My area will just be cooler throughout the day today alone, but should be ten more degrees colder come tomorrow morning.

I'd best put another blanket in the fire. And I was just enjoying the springlike temperatures that were comfortable for a good chunk of the past week. Oh, well. Guess I can't get too used to things around these...

Give Luhnow Credit For The Cardinals' Recent Success

Posted 10-13-2012 at 06:44 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The St Louis Cardinals are still an elite baseball franchise. That being said, some people didn't think that they would repeat last year's success and would take a step back, what with former manager Tony LaRussa retiring after last season and Mike Matheny coming on in his place.

Guess what? The Cards haven't missed a beat.

So what if the Reds won the National League Central Division in 2012? Good for them, but the Cards didn't fall apart. Look where...

Another Interstate In Dallas? Never Say Never

Posted 10-11-2012 at 08:03 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Since I'm a self-proclaimed Texas roads fanatic, I am often curious as to why certain places don't have certain types of corridors. In a previous post or three, I may have touched on a hint that there should be new corridors in West and Central Texas. But my attention, at this moment, is brought to a roadway that has existed for years as a loop, but still carries a state highway designation and is not signed as an interstate. So, I turn my attention to North Texas, where I live....

I'm Ready For A Little Texas-OU

Posted 10-11-2012 at 07:12 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Because my mind had been on some medical-related stuff this week, I really haven't forgotten what's going to be most important, and that is The Big Game. That's right. Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, the annual donnybrook between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners will commence, and I'll be watching with interest.

Oklahoma hasn't started the way most (even I) had expected, but I'm still expecting them to show up strong against an improving Texas team...
