Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Possible New Dot On The West Texas Landscape

Posted 03-25-2013 at 06:33 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I've previously harped on the travails of the images of West Texas, from wind turbines to anything in Lubbock to.............well, I haven't gotten to them all yet. Hadn't even mentioned my dad's only remaining cousin, have I not? She's in her seventies and is currently living and very much still kicking in the northern part of the city of Midland.

Which brings me briefly to this new tidbit on Case's Column. And this will be about a column (of sorts), and it's...

Astros Fans Had Best Get Used To New Things

Posted 03-20-2013 at 08:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Astros had a few new things in the organization last year. Since you already know what those are, there's no point in my having to repeat them. With another new regular season looming ever so closely, fans will see more changes.

By now, you may know about Houston's new color scheme, blue and orange, which is a throwback to those '60s-'70s-era clubs that many fans will no doubt remember, and reportedly one which many loved. They have a new TV contract with...

Case's Vacation Journal: A Bridge Going Somewhere

Posted 03-20-2013 at 08:01 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

So far, about four days of my latest sojourn have passed. Many pictures were taken and lots of great food had been consumed. All in all, the makings of one more memorable vacation, and there are two days left in my travels.

The second outpost of my three-stop excursion just came off the heels of a bridge demolition. You see, the town of Marble Falls, Texas, had a bridge project going for U.S. Highway 281 in its provision over the Colorado River amid an incredible,...

Good Things Come From Rewards At Work

Posted 03-13-2013 at 02:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Mail watching can always bring feelings of great anticipation. With vacation looming around the corner, there's always something special when something extra comes along to keep me from using too much cash or using the credit card when I don't have to.

That thing in the mail finally arrived. While it's not much, it's certainly a benefit to have around when the aforementioned credit card and cash can go into other things. Oh, what's that thing, you ask? It's a 50-dollar...

Vacation Plans For Case Nearly Upon Us

Posted 03-09-2013 at 08:51 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This again??! Yes, this again. As a matter of fact, it's already been six months since my last venture onto Texas interstates and byways. And now, it's time to do it again.

My latest excursion will take me mostly to the hinterlands. I'll have the delicate combination of small city, small town, and big city, with 340 miles of highway mixed in for the ultimate road trip. And this will all be explored in a five-day period. Where will I be going? ...
