Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Memo To The Astros: Dump The Comcast Network!

Posted 09-28-2013 at 06:47 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

While this public relations travesty known as the arrangement between the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, and Comcast and the juggernaut that is CSN Houston gets more messy by the second, there is some refreshing news. Some, anyway.

Lactate on this for a few moments. Oh, and you can feel free to read the other articles below it, too.

Soft Rains In North Texas Tonight

Posted 09-19-2013 at 07:30 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just when it seemed that it might never rain again, need I remind myself that I live in Texas..............and that I'll need to wait a few minutes? Well, wait, I did, and things began to change.

Okay, so no sunrise view for me come Friday morning, but there's something I don't get very much right now that's going on. When I wake up in the morning, we might have a lingering, soft rain in North Texas. You know, I don't mind having a few mornings like that,...

In the tradition of former sports writer Blackie Sherrod (well, almost), your favorite blogger is back again as we go hither and yon with some Scattershooting. We just came off of Friday the 13th, and I thought I had a good day yesterday. So, now, I get to write to you..................on the 14th ............and I'll begin by sharing with you an interesting experience that you just don't get every day. As per the every now and then, I'll also give you a few connections...

A Few Other Baseball Thoughts From Case's Mind

Posted 09-13-2013 at 07:25 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sure, Texas' Rangers might have more wins than Tampa Bay's Rays, but that's just right now. We've got a little more baseball left, and like any other year, anything can happen.

Here's what I'll be picking for the last few weeks of the regular season:

Texas will collapse and miss the Wild Card. Oakland will win the American League West division at 93 wins. Tampa Bay will get one of the Wild Cards in the AL, but you won't believe who I'm picking to...

So The Astros Will Lose 100 Games Again, But What's Next?

Posted 09-13-2013 at 06:50 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's inevitable. Again. That's the pain you get when you rebuild a baseball club with young talent. Team efforts win ballgames, not just talent alone. The Houston Astros are just in the process of seeing who can deliver and who can't. For the present tense, we're looking at 100 losses again, and for the third time in franchise history and third year in a row.

Look at the players that came into play during the course of the 2013 regular season. Brad Peacock,...
