Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Breakfast Is Still The Most Important Meal Of My Day

Posted 12-02-2013 at 05:57 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Going to work for five days a week, it's always important for me to get something to keep my strength up for the first part of the work day. You might catch me in a Whataburger drive-in line to get a "Breakfast on a Bun" or at J's Donuts in Coppell, Texas, grabbing a few of their sausage kolaches or mini-cinnamon rolls. Oh, I sometimes cook at home or get something into the microwave from time to time, but what I look forward to are my two off-days.

Usually...

Case's Sunday Funny: The Candy's All Gone

Posted 12-01-2013 at 03:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Since I love comedy and the ability to make you laugh from time to time, I thought I'd do something a little different. Here's an occasional bit which I'm going to call "The Sunday Funny". You can only guess what this is named after....

Okay, hands down.

I saw something on YouTube that had me laughing so hard I almost passed out. This clip was taken from Jimmy Kimmel's late-night ABC-TV talk show, and it consisted of some parents playing...

Creation Of Class 6A In Texas Could Force Big Changes In Frisco

Posted 11-30-2013 at 10:26 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 11-30-2013 at 07:50 PM by case44

Perhaps you sports fans in Texas have heard the rumors. An announcement was made back in February, really, without too many folks noticing, and it's looking more and more definite that there will be a Class 6A in Texas high school athletics, beginning with the 2014 UIL realignment.

Here's the dill, pickle: All the existing classes will likely just get moved up one notch without any changes to enrollment number requirements. The reasons are that Class A will be...

Baylor Football Destined For Greatness

Posted 11-26-2013 at 07:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Boy, the Big 12 conference has changed a little bit, hasn't it? You expect, year in and year out, that Texas and Oklahoma would be the perennial top dogs in the conference. And, in the same breath, one would never imagine that Baylor would ever become a top dog, top-flight team in said conference, what with the likes of usual contenders Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State.

Better get used to it being crowded at the top.

As a Texas Longhorn...

Winter's Early Arrival And The Ice Scraper Caper

Posted 11-24-2013 at 06:29 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It wasn't supposed to look good. That's the way the forecast ran until more revisions were brought forth from the National Weather Service. As with any other storm, it only depends on where you'll be when it goes through. Some will get rained on really good, and others, not at all. Problem is, we haven't had a storm where I am. It's just been a trickle.

Rain and sleet. Sleet. Sleet mixed with snow.

Just a trickle so far. ...
