Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Things This Writer Does For A Computer

Posted 12-19-2013 at 08:41 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's almost comical how I have to go through ordeals just to make sure things get right again. So, when it came time to replace my color printer, the audio decided it wanted to go out on my monitor. And it's been a good monitor, too, with built-in speakers.

Ah, the things Ol' Case has to do to remedy a problem. Not just a problem, but an inconvenience. When I'm at my computer, dadgummit, I want to listen to some music. Heck, just about every day,...

Scattershooting / I Threw Away The Birthday Card

Posted 12-17-2013 at 03:46 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Your fearless writer is back with some goings-on, here and there, far and wide, and so forth. It's the little sojourn which I refer to as Scattershooting, and I'm about to make even Blackie Sherrod proud of me. Let's dance around the computer campfire while I sit here and give you some tasty tidbits.

First off, don't be taken aback by the seemingly cruel title. Keep in mind that an accident had taken place during an incident at the Case...

He Once Beat Them, Now He's Joining Them

Posted 12-17-2013 at 02:03 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Never would I have imagined that the player I'm about to mention would ever become a Houston Astro. Incredibly, the Colorado Rockies were actually willing to part with him in favor of someone they think is going to be better. And the guy that is joining the 'Stros used to beat the tar out of them when Houston was a member of the National League. I mean, he gave them fits!

That's the kind of player the Astros like and that's why they were able to get Dexter Fowler to sign...

Mark Your Calendars For Bad Poetry Day.....And Other Dates You Might Not Want To Miss

Posted 12-13-2013 at 07:28 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

So what's in a day? Better than that, what's worth celebrating or remembering that it deserves a nationwide day? You may be real surprised that my boss' vacation calendar at work is now filled with all those recognition days that 99 percent of the population doesn't even think about. Ever celebrate National Popcorn Day? National (fill-in-the-blank) Day might be happening soon, but then, you and I are just thinking about Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Hanukkah.

Looks Like The Great White North Relocated To The South

Posted 12-06-2013 at 10:22 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Brrrrrrrrrr! We've got ourselves a white Friday in North Texas. Sleet and freezing rain had fallen in my area in the last eighteen hours and everything is white outside at this time. Thankfully, it's a day off from work and I really don't have to go anywhere. At least, I've got a nice, warm apartment with heating just so I wouldn't be stuck outside in the Texas winter spell.

Freeways, roadways, and runways are not moving right now. Not very well,...
