Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Can Lubbock Really Support All This?

Posted 01-09-2014 at 07:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Some small cities have nothing at all when it comes to radio, and others have an array of choices. Depending on where you are, you may be in a market that has several stations on auto-pilot and computers are now doing breaks, commercials, inserting weather updates, and playing songs. That's right; there are several radio stations out there in radioland without the use of one single deejay.

Hard to believe, but that's the trend in radio now. In Lubbock, Texas,...

You Can Still See America On An Interstate Highway

Whenever one travels amongst our great America, there are many different ways by which to do it. You have the long and winding road which takes you from Point A to Point B, and that could take on an array of forms.

There are the secondary highways which some call "mother roads" which are full-access to driveways and have traffic signals (and, many times, flashing beacons ), the ones that take you onto Main Street in many small towns, as well as to other points...

Texans Do Well In Their New Head Coach Pick

Posted 01-03-2014 at 06:20 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When I took time to read the articles on the internet, I couldn't help but applaud the decision that the Houston Texans just made. I truly believe that they have their new head coach tailor-made just for them. Yeah, I said the same thing about Kubiak back in ought-6, but this time, things are much different.

I applaud loudly at the choice of Bill O'Brien as the new head coach of the Texans, who now have the number one pick in the forthcoming NFL Draft. Well,...

They're For Good Luck, So Why Not Have Them?

Posted 01-01-2014 at 03:43 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

My first supper for 2014 doesn't necessarily have to be made in the crockpot. Yeah, I could have gone to some fast food place or something like that, but I didn't want to spend any money. For years, my mom used to always make the family black-eyed peas to start the New Year. She says that having them on January 1 is for good luck.

Now, that doesn't seem like a bad thing, but I never fully understood what was behind that premise suggesting tradition. In the South,...

Classic Country Music Thoughts From The Casester

Posted 12-28-2013 at 05:15 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As another year draws to a close, we are spending time looking back at said year just happened. And we all know that people don't go on forever while on Planet Earth, but we lost two giants in the country music genre in 2013, and both will be sorely missed. While people's lives in their physical bodies eventually end, their music goes on forever.

Their nicknames were The Possum and The Master. Their voices were unmistakable and iconic. And that's essentially what...
