Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Vacation Man Is At It Again

Posted 02-14-2014 at 01:33 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Forget that it's just another cheesy title, but the Vacation Man really is about to take the road again. Time for another round of rest from the stress of work. Time to hit the roads of the great state of Texas as a way to relax, seeing more and more of the things that made my homeland what it is.

This weekend, I'll be getting my belongings together, and by dawn on Monday, this writer will find himself burning rubber down on a road near me. Abilene, Buffalo...

The Ryan Express Is Back Home Again, And Houston Couldn't Be Prouder

Posted 02-12-2014 at 07:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Many of you knew this was going to happen. I did, too. We just didn't know when it was going to happen.

Fans of the Texas Rangers are probably seething right now and kicking something they can find. They're wondering, "How can they just let this happen?" Well, it's happened, and it's only for the benefit of the Houston Astros, and for a foundation that is getting more solid as the team rebuilds for the future.

Nolan Ryan is going home again....

A Broken Promise? How About A Free Oil Change?

Posted 02-10-2014 at 05:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 02-10-2014 at 06:52 PM by case44

Previously, I've written about experiences with auto service technicians and the occasional shenanigans when it comes to keeping my beautiful Toyota Camry..........well, ... serviced. You get the good and the bad. I won't go at length with the things technicians say to you just to get more money from you like, say, "We recommend that you get ____ as soon as you can..."

Well, today, all I had to get was an oil change. Nothing more. So, when your...

For Once, All Of Frisco's Highs Can Play Together

Posted 02-07-2014 at 08:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

To say the least, the biennial realignment of the University Interscholastic League in the state of Texas had again come to pass this past Monday, and it was historic, if not very interesting. My high school alma mater in Arlington was moved into a newly-formed Class 6A, the state's newest big-school classification.

Fine and good, but my area of interest is in an up-and-coming school district which has already made some noise in the Texas high school football playoff picture...

From Flurries To Falling Snow, Mother Nature Laughs Loud

Posted 02-06-2014 at 08:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The forecast was more promising yesterday than it was this morning. That is, if you prefer warmer temps outside. But what about the forecast for today? It once called for flurries. What we got instead in Dallas was a little more than a dusting of a half-inch of new-fallen snow.

Doggie, it's cold out there! Try an early-morning low of 17 degrees. Caution is advised on area lakes.

Oh, I got home okay after the snow fell while at work,...
