Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I-69 Update: A Small Segment In Laredo To Get 69W Designation

The decision has been made in Laredo, Texas, to get Interstate 69W signs put up on the recently-realigned segment of U.S. Highway 59 on the city's north side. AASHTO quietly made it official from Victoria to Laredo in April (and we're just now finding out??), so Jeff Austin from the Texas Transportation Commission broke the announcement Thursday to make everything official.

I'll let you read about it at this link.

Technical Problems Put Me On The Sidelines

Posted 06-27-2014 at 08:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Thunder and lightning did a number on my internet router and cable box while I was at work on Hump Day. Fried. Out of whack. And we always knew that Mother Nature has a way with being a little sneak.

So, Ol' Case just had to live with no internet for two days until a tech finally showed up to fix the problem. I just knew it would be the equipment acting up. No cable TV, either, so I resorted to my radio for weather updates. Then came Friday. Relief at last....

My Vacation Went Well --- And The Food Was Memorable

Posted 06-22-2014 at 12:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just four days removed from my trip to Natchitoches, Louisiana, and, you bet, I'll do it again sometime. What a great time had by me as I've ventured off across a state line to go goof off in Cajun Country.

In addition to seeing a historic town on the Louisiana Purchase, I'll always remember the great food I consumed on this road trip. Unbelievable seafood, etouffee, a Pontchartrain sauce that had mushrooms, crab meat, and crawfish; this town had 'em all....

What If Casper Were A Large City?

In looking back and thinking about things I've written on the forums a few years ago, I used to cook up new thread ideas with some regularity. These days, I haven't had many new things to start up, so, anymore, I have to wait for someone on the forum to get a new gold star. That'd give me some excuse to write a new thread. But something from my past came over me, and I want to just write something down.

Way back when (I think it was during my first year on C-D),...

Rainy Day Sunday At The Case Abode

Posted 06-22-2014 at 10:58 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Usually, I'd be at work at the time I'm writing this piece. I'm just enjoying the last day of my vacation right here at the Case abode, and there's a steady, but soft, rain falling in the neighborhood.

Apparently, we've got a low-pressure system over Texas, and the rain I'm getting is forming right here and moving to the east. Sometimes, you've just got to have a little rain to ease your mind a bit. And if you take a pause on my second floor patio and just soak...
