Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Astros At The Break: Improved, But A Ways To Go

Posted 07-14-2014 at 06:08 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Houston Astros are trying to prove to the baseball world that they will have some of the makings of a contending team. Sunday's game notwithstanding (an embarrassing 11-0 defeat to the Boston Red Sox at Minute Maid Park), they still have work to do in the second half.

Basically, the offense has shown some signs of life this year, and we have seen how capable they are of making things happen by initiating the first attack and taking advantage of their opponents' mistakes....

Thirty Years Since Leaving High School: Just How Will They Turn Out?

Posted 07-12-2014 at 08:02 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The question of the week --- and possibly the year --- looms largely as I sit one week away from a 30-year high school class reunion. That question is, "How will my classmates turn out?" That, of course, depends on the individual, and we'll have a variety of situations which will be examined in person next Saturday night. And, conversely, to them, those that care will probably wonder how Ol' Case turned out once they see that I'm now one of the attendees. ...

Friday Morning Breakfast: There's Nothing Like It

Posted 07-11-2014 at 07:53 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's the most anticipated event of my week for most weeks. My last day of work is on Thursday and I don't have to go back until Sunday. For my first breakfast of my days off, that's the thing I always look forward to doing.

On Friday mornings, I generally go to a restaurant or café of my choice in my area and sit down to whatever I crave. There's always some steaming hot coffee to go with things like biscuits, French toast, regular toast, sausage patties, link...

A Red Light Sting? Well, Yes, At An Intersection

Posted 07-05-2014 at 08:17 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, life can deal you some strange curves. Such was the case yesterday as I traveled in my Toyota to Arlington, Texas, for their annual 4th of July Parade. At a certain point, I wondered if I would ever get there.

On a glorious 4th of July morning, it was time to go see a patriotic Independence Day parade like I used to do. First time in about six or seven years that I got to do this, so it had become time. I drove through a small portion of Fort Worth...

7-4-14: Happy Fourth, America!

Posted 07-03-2014 at 06:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Can't believe we're already at this point of the year, but I'm happy that it's here. And, best of all, your favorite blogger won't be working on this particular day, and that's the first time in some seven years that that's happened.

I'm planning to attend a nearby parade. Many people are going to be attending (or, perhaps, participating in) Independence Day parades throughout our great America. There will be floats, singers, marching bands, flag waving,...
