Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Restaurant With A Miami Twist Gives Texas A Try

Posted 07-26-2014 at 01:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I've driven by this particular restaurant in Frisco, Texas, a few times this past week and wondered about it. At first glance, I thought it'd be a local thing coming onto the scene. Turns out it isn't, but the concept of said eatery is sure to arouse a few palates in the area.

The name of this restaurant is Pollo Tropical, and it is a Miami (Florida)-based chain that specializes in chicken with a Caribbean flair. Decidedly different, don't you think? Nobody...

Case's Sunday Funny: How Shall We End The Program?

Posted 07-20-2014 at 07:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, I haven't done this in a while, so it's way past time for another Sunday Funny on Case's Column. This day's funny comes through the auspices of some TV gurus on YouTube who like to collect old television themes from different production companies.

You know how many TV shows play a production company's theme shortly after the conclusion of same? That's pretty much a staple of the broadcast world, and something that, for many, brings back a lot of memories. ...

We've Sure Had A Nice Rain In Texas

Posted 07-19-2014 at 09:09 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

If the last few days have been any indication, you'd swear that the sun would never come back to do its baking duties on the southern U.S. Take Dallas, for example. We've had some cooler-than-normal temperatures outside, all the while experiencing some steady rains and a few flashes of thunder.

No, it's not supposed to be 72 degrees in the afternoon in Dallas, Texas, in July! Not at all, but you know, it's been a refreshing change. How about lows in the mid-60s?...

When Water Loses Its Taste? Simple Answer: Try Flavored Water

Posted 07-19-2014 at 06:25 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I don't know why I didn't discover this earlier. Must be because old habits tend to die hard.

For many years, I bought bottled spring water and chilled it in my fridge so I can take a cold bottle to work each day. And, of course, during my time at work, the coldness would drift away and I'm left with lukewarm water by the end of the shift. Water loses its taste when it's not cold. But I've grown tired of ordinary water and have made a discovery at a local Tom...

Astros At The Break: Improved, But A Ways To Go

Posted 07-14-2014 at 06:08 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Houston Astros are trying to prove to the baseball world that they will have some of the makings of a contending team. Sunday's game notwithstanding (an embarrassing 11-0 defeat to the Boston Red Sox at Minute Maid Park), they still have work to do in the second half.

Basically, the offense has shown some signs of life this year, and we have seen how capable they are of making things happen by initiating the first attack and taking advantage of their opponents' mistakes....
