Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

History Being Made In Frisco Sports

This fall, there will be no shortage of firsts in Frisco, Texas, high school sports. I was witness to just one of those firsts last night.

Wakeland High School's Wolverines were playing the Lone Star Rangers in high school football for the very first time ever on Thursday night. Now, to preface, Lone Star opened its doors four years ago, but has been assigned to a lower UIL classification due to a lower enrollment than other schools in Frisco. Because of that, ...

Astros Win, Customers Win, And Mattress Mack Loses AND Wins

Posted 09-09-2014 at 06:14 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Talk about promotions to bring a baseball club back to life. That was the plan that Jim McIngvale of Houston's Gallery Furniture stores presented to customers who purchased $6,300 or greater of furniture items from his two stores. Mattress Mack, as he's known, decided that his prediction for the hometown Astros was 100 losses again. So he made a bet. Well, the Astros certainly did the customers a big favor.....................by not losing 100 games. What's happening with...

A Dumpster Always Lives Up To Its Name

Posted 09-07-2014 at 06:48 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's the thing that always goes with apartment living: taking out the trash. Yet, like it or not, it's got to be done. I'd grabbed some takeout items while out driving, and the trash left from those things just needed to be removed from the inside of my car.

So Ol' Case needed to suck it up for a few seconds. I parked next to one of the dumpsters at my complex and took the time to jettison out the things that didn't need to be in my front seat. Approaching the...

Bad Golf My Way: Why I Would Never Play The Greens

Posted 08-26-2014 at 02:41 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You'll never see me attempt to do a Jack Nicklaus imitation at some local golf course. Nope. It'll never happen. I've tried golf a long time ago, but that course I played on will never be the same again.

The discovery came more than twenty years ago when I spent an afternoon with a friend and we played golf at a local course. It was hot, and we had no caddy. The discovery is this: I'm very good at bad golf. Really. That 18-hole course I played on...
