Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Amazing How One Passes Advice To A Co-Worker, Especially After One's Own Experience

Posted 01-21-2015 at 02:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 02-15-2015 at 07:21 PM by case44

My co-worker told me today that his tooth was hurting. He was weighing different ideas on how to combat his little problem. Fortunately for him, Ol' Case was about to step in and relate something to him. That something was a solution to a similar problem I had a few years ago.

I mentioned to him about my own experience with a toothache I didn't expect to have. It looked like the tooth was about to bust through my gum, and I actually thought about seeing a specialist for...

Hi, again, everyone! The New Year is well underway, and some of you have made resolutions.........and broken them. My only real resolution is to keep writing for you, and I could never break that. It's that time again for more here and more there, and a little more everywhere as we go Scattershooting once more on Case's Column. I'm just chock-full of news, views, and other things this time around, and I'll do my best to bring it all without taking too much space.

Lubbock Could Use Some Innovation For Road Ads

Posted 01-17-2015 at 08:24 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

From the past experiences I've had in driving through, in, and around Lubbock, I had noticed something in the freeway system that was missing, and it's the kind of thing you would normally see in the big city.

Billboards.

Unless my eyes were deceiving me, I don't recall seeing any billboards on any of Lubbock's three freeways in their arterial (though I did spot some smaller, older billboards on East U.S. Highway 82 between East Lubbock and Idalou, but a few...

And It Would Have Been A Fine Celebration, Except....

Posted 01-14-2015 at 08:02 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

....the intended guest of honor won't be around.

It had so much potential. A birthday mini-party and a potluck were in the beginning stages of planning as my co-workers and myself were getting excited about my boss having a birthday this next week. Nothing like a post-Monday birthday bash, and the time would have been just right. I was even putting a list of food items together with a main course, one side, one complementing item, and even a dessert. All...

New Mac's In Grapevine Getting Good Business

Posted 01-14-2015 at 07:43 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When the move was made for Mac's Bar and Grill to relocate from a freeway location in Colleyville, Texas, to a new downtown venue in Grapevine (just a few miles away), I just wondered how it would fare. They had a loyal customer base at the other location, but would a lot of that actually carry over to Grapevine?

So far, as my waitress for tonight told me, no. But they've gotten big business, anyway. The reason? What I mentioned in the first paragraph: ...
