Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Few Takeaways From My Recent Bayou City Road Trip

Posted 06-18-2023 at 08:58 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Here are just a few things gleaned from doing some obligatory sightseeing around the Houston/Galveston area this past week:

QuikTrip is slowly adding new stations in Houston proper. Online, I saw a little ditty about possibly getting some property near the Gulf Freeway (Interstate 45) near the South Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8). What is visible now is a sign with construction actually taking place of a new QT on the North Freeway (I-45) and Richey Road. I drove around...

I-69 Update: NE And SW, Houston Is Ready To Add More Miles

Posted 06-18-2023 at 07:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'm not completely sure what the transportation powers that be are waiting on, as the evaluation process is not supposed to take long while highway sections recently built to interstate standards await official designation and subsequent signage. Suddenly, I hear that ketchup commercial jingle entering my mind again....

While you're thinking about Carly Simon, I'm thinking about seeing Interstate 69 having more miles added to it in areas northeast and southwest of...

Ramblings (And Some Hard Truth) About The Shape America's In

Posted 06-18-2023 at 06:02 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Things are not good right now.

And some things just aren't funny anymore.

You see all the filth. All the games played on us. All the arrows thrust into the air as our society is at war from within its boundaries.

My America, as you all know, is in very bad shape right now. Left-wing policies by a bogus administration who kicked the White House door down a few years ago have put a world of hurt in our country. Day after day, Americans are...

KRIV's Berman Ends A Legendary Run In Houston

Posted 06-16-2023 at 05:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, I just possess great timing when I plan vacations. My first night on this now-completed road trip showed exactly why.

Without paying too much attention going in, I turn on the hotel television and, lo and behold, longtime Houston sportscaster Mark Berman was going to do his final sportscast. I watched it, alright. Now, I did read about Berman's retirement some time ago online, so it's not like this thing caught me by surprise. I just had no idea that...

I Would Not Have Expected H-E-B To Do This

Posted 06-10-2023 at 08:55 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

H-E-B Grocers contain a number of different store concepts in its arsenal. One that I haven't been aware of previously is a thing called Joe V's Smart Shop, H-E-B's answer to low prices for shoppers who happen to pinch a few more pennies than their counterparts.

Oddly enough, they're found only in Houston, as San Antonio (H-E-B's home base) does not feature this concept at locations in the parts of the city which you'd think would have this. In any event, the city of Dallas...
