Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

And You Wonder If School Would Ever End....

Posted 06-05-2015 at 03:21 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

We are deep into the month of June already, and this morning, coming back from breakfast out, I saw some kids with their backpacks at the entrance to my apartment complex..............waiting for their school bus.

My lands, this has got to be it. It, of course, being the last day of school for a number of North Texans who still haven't gotten out yet. Come Monday, there won't be school kids waiting for buses, and the next time that happens, it'll be late August...

Living On Tulsa Time Is Case

Posted 06-04-2015 at 09:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

And such will be true this coming Sunday, when yours truly takes to the road to be an Okie for a week. Those fried onion burgers I made at home yesterday were just the beginning, and the real vacation began right after work today.

Yep, that's where I'll be heading, so if you notice my absence from the City-Data scene, then that pretty well explains it. Tulsa offers great city views, river views, rolling hills, Route 66, and marvelous food. Sure, I've been...

Astros In First Place - And Par For The Course

Posted 05-29-2015 at 10:01 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

If you tend to judge the Houston Astros by the results of the last four seasons, then this year's showing will spur the thought of "Well, now, that's more like it." Indeed, 2015 has been kind to Houston in a lot of ways. The calendar year began with fan favorite Craig Biggio being elected for baseball's Hall of Fame induction. And the team is playing better than even last year's bunch. It's a group of fine, young, and talented players proving that they belong at the big-league...

And The Rains Keep Falling

Posted 05-24-2015 at 03:47 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

North Texas sure is getting a lot of rain on this Memorial Day weekend, id-nit? One band after another has continued to fall, and then there'd be calm for a while until the next system arrives.

At least, in Austin, they're getting much-needed precipitation, specifically around Lake Travis, where they've had a 40-foot deficit in their pool for a couple of years now. While the figures won't increase too much just yet, at least it's something for that lake and that...

When Lightning Strikes, There's Reason For Alarm

Posted 05-17-2015 at 02:13 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Nothing like the wild, wacky world of work to go back to on a Sunday. That's especially true in the event of a thunderstorm, and the fact that, upon my arrival, the building's fire alarm was going off!

Now, why, pray tell, did that go on? Turns out that the building was hit by lightning during the night of the thunderstorm and it fritzed out the alarm system. The thing was just going off every hour for a few hours and it took one of the managers to try...
