Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

With Leftovers, You Just Have To Be Creative

Posted 07-11-2015 at 08:23 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'll go out and say it: I hate most leftovers. Things like vegetables or macaroni and cheese are items that are better fresh. So, I brought home some leftover fried chicken and mashed potatoes from my mom's the other night, and I've put them in my refrigerator.

Where the potatoes happen to be concerned, I didn't want them as they were.

Light bulb! I had butter, bacon bits, and chives at my disposal, so it came time to do some creativity with them....

Ol' Phlash Knows How To Get Around

Posted 07-09-2015 at 05:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When you listen to Sirius XM's 60s on 6, you hear songs about surfing, fast cars, broken relationships, cruising down the boulevard, and..............food. That's just off the top of my head, but I digress. After all, where else will you hear The Beach Boys' classic "I Get Around"?

Well, the channel boasts a lineup that includes a fellow who does get around. He's done it more often and in more states than anyone else, including this writer....

It's Your Birthday, America: 2015 --- Happy 4th!

Posted 07-03-2015 at 07:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Hey, everyone! Guess what? We've got another 4th of July upon us once again. Time to go see a parade or many other Independence Day functions and goings-on around the U.S. It's a time for celebration of the greatest country on the face of the Earth. Lots of fireworks on display everywhere, too.

I'm glad I'll be celebrating all day this year. Save some watermelon and a burger or two for the Casester. Enjoy all the fun!

Flashing Yellow Arrow Goes All Over Texas Now

Posted 07-02-2015 at 03:55 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A few years ago, I did a blog chickenscratch on the new phenomenon in traffic navigation called the flashing yellow arrow. Basically, every state and every city, burg, and town will eventually feature this new feature, intended to make people yield while waiting to make a left turn opposite traffic passing in the other direction.

I mentioned Frisco, Texas, as a location that is putting all of it together. Today, most eligible intersections have already converted...

Astros Radio Guys Have Improved Over Time

Posted 06-29-2015 at 08:39 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Houston Astros have had Milo Hamilton. They've had Alan Ashby. They've also had Brett Dolan. And they've also had Dave Raymond.

Many moons before the aforementioned, they had a chap named Harry Kalas, who manned the Astros' radio booth before he bolted for Philadelphia to make his legend.

Now, we're seeing (or hearing) what kind of legend is being made with the current radio voices, Robert Ford and Steve Sparks. Both came to Houston two years...
