Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

It's Springtime In January, But I'm Not Complaining

Posted 01-30-2016 at 01:18 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

So what if Groundhog Day is three days away? If Punxsutawney Phil sez that we have an early spring, then it wouldn't bother me one bit. Let me bask in the glow of 70-degree highs in North Texas.

That's right, sports fans. Outside my patio, it's 70 big ones! Life could not be better right now. According to our trusty calendars (that's that thing in the kitchen), it is supposed to be winter at this time. Now and then, I'm cool with cool air, but spring...

Another Song I Haven't Heard In A Long While

Posted 01-27-2016 at 08:56 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Oh, the things I just post in Music....

Came across one that I haven't heard since around my high school days. You may remember a guitarist named Dave Edmunds. He's from Wales and has had some exposure in the U.S. but never really had a gigantic hit here. One song I do remember from him is a song called "Slipping Away", and I remember it getting quite a bit of airplay when I was in high school. Only made it to number 39 in the Top 40 back in 1983. The only...

Extreme Makeover: New Workout Room Equipment And A New Bike

Posted 01-22-2016 at 12:21 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

They promised new equipment for the workout room at my apartment complex and they, no doubt, delivered. For a while, I was worried about the powers that be would not bring in a new stationary bike, since all the other new items came in first. The bike came in last, but I'm glad one actually arrived at all.

For a while, management was talking about replacing all of the old workout machines and all that went with them. I loved that old stationary bicycle they had when...

Losing Notable Musicians In A Short Time

Posted 01-21-2016 at 08:46 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

In this fast-moving first month of 2016, we have lost, so far, some very notable musicians who have made an impact on the music biz. They were among your favorite artists and, chances are, one of your favorite songs may have been by one of these singers.

Natalie Cole.

David Bowie.

Glenn Frey.

Names you know. Music you've listened to. We're talking decades with these people, folks. They've been there. They've...

When Monday Doesn't Exactly Feel Like Monday

Posted 01-18-2016 at 04:53 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

At work today, I thought I'd play it safe by going in an hour early. After looking at this morning's activity board, it turns out it was for nothing. Nonetheless, I had to make a day out of it, because tomorrow morning will be grueling.

Never mind that today was Dr Martin Luther King, Jr's Day. It was an easy-peasy day at the office. That's a welcome sight any week, and it was for this one. Letting Monday pass with the Monday crew, and no big-time pressure...
