Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Lending Your Voice To The Airwaves

Posted 02-14-2016 at 11:33 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

If I weren't doing what I'm currently doing, then I certainly would have been in radio. Yeah, I know, the business is not what it used to be, but there are still people out there who are trying like the dickens to keep the medium on a local level, which it should be.

So, there's this fantasy that I want to be a country deejay, spinning old country tunes and having his own show. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having (former Austin jock) Tom Allen's old gig, where he'd...

Watch Out For Gas Price Gouging, Folks

Posted 02-12-2016 at 08:31 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Yes, believe it or not, it's happening in some places. I caught this latest shenanigan occurring in Shreveport while getting gas on Thursday. It was at the Exxon station at Pines Road just south of Interstate 20.

I got regular unleaded for $1.63 a gallon, just a bit higher than most locations' averages. But that was not the issue. That same gas station featured a price for premium unleaded at $2.23 a gallon! That is just so wrong. I didn't see what the...

New Road In Louisiana And Arkansas Has A Promising Future

Posted 02-11-2016 at 08:34 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I finished my road trip after leaving Natchitoches, and once I arrived in Shreveport, I could not resist taking a brief sojourn on a newly-completed stretch of interstate. This morning, I had decided to check out the new 60-mile segment of Interstate 49, which begins at Louisiana Highway 1 in north Shreveport and stretches all the way to U.S. 71/59 north of Texarkana, on the Arkansas-Texas line. Dallas can wait. I-49 couldn't.

Nice road. Can't wait until...

Case's Vacation Journal: Here We Geaux Again

Posted 02-10-2016 at 08:32 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

First off, I never would have thought that Natchitoches, Louisiana, would be so quiet on Fat Tuesday. Well, it turns out that the community had done all of their Mardi Gras celebrating over this past weekend, so that explains what amounts to just another quiet Tuesday in a small town. First visit to Natchitoches since 2014, but it's nonetheless going good.

It's just as well. Hump Day has now arrived, and in the past two days, I've munched on any swamp creature...

Big Event Scheduled For The Frisco's Star

Posted 02-07-2016 at 08:46 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

And, no, it's not the Super Bowl. Not big enough for that. You can call the Dallas Cowboys' new practice facility Jerry World, Jr. That will be the site of something bigger than anything Frisco, Texas, had ever seen.

With all of Frisco's eight oldest open high schools competing in District 13-5A this coming fall, they will begin the season with something out of the ordinary. For one Saturday during Zero Week (likely in August, as the official date has yet...
