Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Briles Suddenly Out At Baylor: What Happened?

Posted 05-27-2016 at 08:35 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It was supposed to be a football program on the rise after many years of mediocrity or cellar-dwelling. It did rise, and they've gone through the stratosphere in recent years with an explosive offense and school records shattered. They've come close to a national title a couple of times, but the Baylor Bears have gotten everybody's attention. Coach Art Briles was the best thing that happened on the Brazos since....well, sliced bread, maybe? He'd suddenly become America's coach (if...

Leave It To (The) Beaver: Buc-ee's Is Finally In Cowtown

Posted 05-26-2016 at 08:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Okay. Say it. You just got used to going to the Terrell location and can't let go. Well, if you're closer to where I am, then you can drive a shorter distance if you just happen to get the itches for Buc-ee's Nug-ees.

Beaver Fever has finally made it into Fort Worth, right next to Texas Motor Speedway and just two weeks from a major race to take place there. If you'd prefer being at Buc-ee's when there's not much of a crowd, well, you'd have to be there at...

Scattershooting / A Little Bit Of Nostalgia From The Past

Posted 05-24-2016 at 07:22 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Warm greetings and felicitations to all readers as you gather here again for more Scattershooting, right here on this blog page. Time for more here, there, and a lot of places, so go get a few marshmallows and a coat hanger from some closet. Not sure where we'll do our little campfire, but I know we'll think of something.

It's funny how I'm reminded of things I watched on television as a kid. And there were certain people on the airwaves,...

The Writing On The Wall: Check Out Hutchins

Posted 05-16-2016 at 02:34 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, people just like leaving a mark or two here and there. Whenever I go to Hutchins BBQ in Frisco for some Central Texas-style 'cue, I never fail to check out the ambience of the rustic setting that that place has. Pictures. Factoids. Replicas.

Oh, sure, it's modern on the outside. But once inside, it's a real barbecue joint like the kinds you see between Dallas and Luling. As soon as you get in line, you'll see some people's scribblings on the...

Understanding A Fax Machine: Did You Copy?

Posted 05-11-2016 at 04:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It isn't even supposed to be complex. All I needed to do was fax four papers to another dispatch office after my shift ended on Tuesday. One of these days, I might understand certain components of a fax machine, but right now, I don't.

What only needed to take five minutes to accomplish had actually taken ten. I had to use two fax machines until one of the leads told me that one of them was broken and cannot be used. There was no sign telling me not to use it,...
