Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I-69 Update: Mile Markers In Houston? Yep

Posted 09-06-2016 at 03:10 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Not much new on the Interstate 69 front, but on a recent trip to Houston, I saw an interesting development. And I know I haven't seen this before.

On the Eastex Freeway, I noticed some mile markers for the first time, and curiously, the mileage figures that were put on them are about the actual distance on I-69 / U.S. 59 from Victoria, which will be the convergence point of I-69E and I-69W into I-69. So, the concept is starting to get clearer now. Since I-69 won't...

I Felt The Earth Move --- Literally

Posted 09-03-2016 at 08:33 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

And all I did was sit at this computer. It was 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, all by my lonesome, and minding my own business when suddenly....

I felt the apartment move from left to right, back and forth, for about a minute or so.

How bizarre was that? What could possibly have been going on for a certain minute on a certain Saturday morning?

Well, I thought nothing of it a few minutes later and went about my routine, posting a few...

Back-In Parking: Is This The Coming Thing?

Posted 09-02-2016 at 08:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Life sure is a funny thing. So are city decisions made by city leaders which we don't really know about until we see something strange before our eyes.

Such happens to be the case when I drove westbound on Church Street (one-way) in Lewisville, Texas, and I spotted a new type of parking situation on the north side of the MCL Grand Theater. It has a line of parking spaces faced against the driver's actual direction. In other words, the spaces, under previous...

Scattershooting / Fighting Off The Annual Cold

Posted 09-01-2016 at 05:24 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 09-04-2016 at 02:39 PM by case44

Can you say, "Here we go again"? Yes, indeed, I'm back with some Scattershooting for the masses all over America and around the world. There are things going on that you might not hear about any other place..........except right here!

So, let's get our computer campfire cranked up and save that cold water for drinking. You'll need it to wash the marshmallows down.

********

My only wish is to go through a stretch where,...

Can The Astros Get An AL Wild Card Berth?

Posted 08-30-2016 at 04:31 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

For several weeks, the Houston Astros got either hot or cold. For three months, they really played some good baseball after a lackluster April. Now, they might as well be a rollercoaster ride at.......

Oh, wait, Astroworld's been closed for eleven years.

Look, these are all players with a great work ethic and having a good, solid future, make no mistake about it. They never give up and they grind it out every game. While the Texas Rangers...
