Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I've Got A New Job --- And I'm In

Posted 09-21-2016 at 07:30 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The suspense was deafening. So much so that if a pin were to drop, it'd sound like an anvil in a Wile E. Coyote cartoon.

You should have seen The Case while he waited for a decision on a job offer. It took a week since an interview (actually, a second one) had taken place. I wondered if I'd ever hear from my new manager or the HR rep. And then.........

That moment came!

I got the HR rep on the phone and we nailed everything down and signed...

Tooth Be Told? Addition By Extraction

Posted 09-15-2016 at 09:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, one takes the good with the bad. Other times, one replaces the bad with the good.

The tooth in the lower bridge where I've had a root canal done several years back had acted up a few months ago, and by the time I got to the specialist, the tooth could no longer be saved. So, this writer had to see another specialist..........to extract the tooth!

It had become time for that, as much as I hate losing body parts. First, my thyroid...

I-69 Update: Road Projects Pushed For 2017

Posted 09-13-2016 at 03:47 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Two key projects were revealed in the continued quest to get Interstate 69 more miles in the state of Texas. The 2017 Texas United Transportation Plan unveiled such information the other day.

The first project is huge. It involves what it takes to get U.S. Highway 77 converted to I-69E in all of Kenedy County through the King Ranches corridor. That's not to say the project will immediately begin, but it is being pushed. When this finally gets completed, along with...

So Far, So Good At The Star

Posted 09-09-2016 at 02:00 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

High school football is in full swing, and this writer has already been to three games at Frisco's (Texas) brand new Ford Center At The Star. And so far, the experience has mostly been a good one. We're all still getting used to the place, and it will no doubt grow on us.

As football and marching band fans get used to The Star, I am amazed at the air-conditioned comfort throughout the game. The sightlines are very good. Oddly enough, the press box is opposite what...

The Unexpected At Work: Possible Second Chance?

Posted 09-09-2016 at 12:05 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A couple of days ago, before I was to have a bowl of chili with my brother at Tolbert's in Grapevine, TX (You should try that place, folks ---- Legendary! ), a situation happened at work that I never really would have expected.

It started a month ago, when I applied for a day position in Customs Brokerage at my place of business. The ensuing interview went great, but I ended up edged out by one person wishing to change his schedule and who had already been experienced...
