Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Thoughts Of Radio's Past: Keeping It C-Side

Posted 12-09-2016 at 08:44 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Back a few moons ago, I remember heading down to Corpus Christi with a friend of mine, and we took time to listen to the radio while on the beach. Being that I am a mild radio buff, I remember the jingles and different airchecks from whichever stations we had going on.

Two stations that stick out are the ones known as Z95 and C101. In those days, KZFM-FM (95.5) and KNCN-FM (101.3) were two very fine rock and pop stations that were red-hot in the market. I still remember...

All We Need For A Mouse Is El Gato

Posted 12-07-2016 at 07:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You would think that a workplace would be the last place that a mouse would sneak into. Sure enough, this past week, one actually has.

It's more than enough to start a commotion to break up monotony, but a mouse running around in my place of business could use a little.............perhaps we should say, extermination. Animals, as it is, aren't allowed in the building any more than kids or babies or family members. As for the mouse, it went and hid. Has...

One Appetizer Worth Road-Tripping For

Posted 12-05-2016 at 03:30 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Road trips are for sneaking away from home for a little bit and just getting away. About a week ago, your writer decided to do that very thing.

While this writing won't be a formal food review, I'll just make this a mild endorsement, but this contains food I don't want to forget. If you're ever in Waco, Texas, on any kind of a trip, business, pleasure, or what have you, that I've got a great suggestion for you for your stop. One of Waco's most legendary eateries...

Coming Back From Lunch....To A Fire Drill

Posted 12-01-2016 at 07:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You readers out there should have seen it, because it has to be seen to be believed. Wednesday afternoon, coming back from my lunch break at work, things looked like a normal, average day.

That is, until your writer got three feet from his desk and was about to clock back in when....

....the fire alarm sounded. No, there was no fire, but we did have a fire drill. It turned out to be one of the quicker ones we've had since I've been at the company....

It's About Thyme? Somebody's Pantry Needs Spices Replaced

Posted 12-01-2016 at 06:09 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When something like a certain spice is no good anymore, it usually means exactly what I just said. I just looked at some of the things in the pantry and was aghast at what I've overlooked. Multiple spices are kept there, so, inevitably, that means things get pushed back to where you can't see it, and then you don't realize you still have some when you didn't check first. Other times, you'll get what I experienced the other day, and that's a container of chives which expired...
