Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Hitting 30 Million Views On C-D, So I Say 'Thanks'

Posted 02-13-2017 at 04:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's not a sexy number, mind you, but it's a milestone, nonetheless. Your writer is about to get 30 million views on the City-Data forum pages. That's something, when you consider how many people read this website from all over the world. Think about it.

Anyway, readers, thank you for being a big part of the forums all these years. I'm going to continue posting and getting involved, as well as continuing my blog page, for as long as I can do it. By the...

Villa A Breath Of Fresh Air At Grammys

Posted 02-13-2017 at 02:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Typically, I don't watch awards shows all that much on television. And in this day and age, with so much political hate speech being spewed unnecessarily at audiences who would rather be entertained than spinned, such award shows are not even worth watching. Personally, if I had won an award, I would at least take the time to thank those responsible for the success of my latest album or song.

Alas, though, I haven't. Not yet, anyway.

Case's Vacation Journal: No Spillage Where It Counted

Posted 02-12-2017 at 10:00 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Your writer tends to have an issue from time to time, and that is, whenever I eat, I would sometimes splatter or drop a particle of food on my shirt or pants. With things like chili or barbecue sauce, that's almost to be expected every time. Normally, when I'd take trips from 3 to 5 days or more, there'd never been a time when a shirt didn't get messed up in some shape, manner, or form.

But this vacation offered something different.

As careful an...

Corpus Christi Broadcasting Needs A Little Pick-Me-Up

It's a very fine city in South Texas. It's a port city filled with hard-working, blue-collar people. The place has a very fine downtown and wonderful beachfront property for visitors. Poised for growth? I'd say so.

So, how come this television market can't do more for its viewers? Oh, sure, there is cable and all the thousands of offerings, but you still have to have some local news for your peeps. The two stations with everything going for them right now are KIII-TV...

Case's Vacation Journal: Where To Put The Road Signs

Posted 02-10-2017 at 06:14 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I had to interrupt my Corpus Christi diversion with another diversion, this one in the Rio Grande Valley. Six hours squeezed in to one day, mostly driving, but had to check on the new signs put up by TXDOT. I've waited a long time for all the changes to be made, what with the adding of assurance markers and guide sign updates. Yes, this could have been another Interstate 69 update, but I'll just do the honors here instead.

The powers that be at TXDOT did a fine job...
