Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Mists Of Time: Airchecks From The Old KBOX

Posted 03-11-2017 at 06:57 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I couldn't help it, but you'll be amazed what you can find on YouTube. Radio deejay airchecks from years past are all over. Different deejays, different markets.

So, here's a compilation of airchecks from 1960 Dallas radio. The below clip which I've selected is from KBOX-AM (1480). My reflections on this blog were previously about its days as a country music station (primarily in the 1970s), but what I'm presenting here is from the station's pop music days. ...

Daylight Time Already? My, How Time Flies

Posted 03-09-2017 at 07:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

In the next few days, we get to do what I've waited all winter for. The bad part is losing the one hour of sleep, but the trade-off is fabulous. We are in the midst of having more daylight each day. So, we are going to set our clocks forward one hour on Saturday night.

Yeah, that big moment occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, at which time, it becomes 3 a.m. That is when most of us will transition to Daylight Time. Spring is the harbinger of immediate things to come...

One Has To Wonder What The Doctor Is Thinking

Posted 03-06-2017 at 07:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

To think this was just a routine appointment with the endocrinologist, but with any doctor, you have to wonder if the routine element is legit. Nothing seems routine anymore, because things can happen.

And to top it off, I ended up winning a battle (as it were) with the nurse and doctor.

Really, the issue was this: Part of seeing my endocrinologist (who is checking my neck for thryroid conditions long after my thyroidectomy) includes taking my temperature,...

Another Blast From The Past, Still Open....Elsewhere

Posted 03-05-2017 at 06:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

If I were to make a list of places that I want to see make a comeback after having left the picture, I just thought of one that should. Even more bizarre than that, this restaurant still stands with just one location, no longer part of any chain.

Well, it always helps if I find something online.

The place I'm referring to is York Steak House, which used to have a location in Arlington, Texas, many years ago. Man, I used to enjoy that place....

A Few Brownie Bites Were The Big Hit At Work

Posted 03-03-2017 at 06:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Hope you all out there had a good Texas Independence Day. While that was going on, I was just going through my usual routine at work.

But the regular routine needed a bit of a slight interruption. A diversion, if you please. It came time for this writer to go get a couple of containers of brownie bites to take to work on Purple Shirt Thursday. Okay, brownies are not purple, but that's not the point. I just needed to do something nice for the folks...
