Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

If only your writer had a hold of an article giving plenty of notice. Instead, I find out after the event had already begun.

Realistically, it wouldn't have worked, anyway, as I had to go to work here in suburban Dallas, having been back from vacation for five days. Now, if the following event had happened last Saturday....

Hmmmm....

In case you're wondering, near Lubbock in the town of Slaton, today's the day of the...

The Story Of The I-27 Numbering Sees A New Change

I honestly didn't think this was going to happen. Honestly. But the new Ports-To-Plains legislation did officially pass through the U.S. Senate, but previous plans just had to be modified.

Okay.

So, as I previously reported here on Case's Column, we saw Interstate 27 having its new tires kicked with the Sterling City-to-Midland split named I-227. Not anymore now. It will now officially be named I-27W, which means that U.S. Highway 87 from...

Windmills Swept Away?? Lubbock May Be In For A New Image

Posted 08-23-2023 at 10:50 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When you think of Lubbock, Texas, you tend to think about one of three things: Buddy Holly, cotton, and windmills.

Okay, so possibly even tumbleweeds and Texas rock-n-roll, but for now, we'll stick with the three listed above.

In any event, Lubbock is growing, and, in my opinion, such is long overdue for a place which needed to be more aggressive following the horrendous 1970 tornado which hit the central and downtown parts of the city. ...

Easy Listening Music Does Need To Make A Comeback

Posted 08-22-2023 at 02:36 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

For the past few weeks on YouTube, this writer has found a few posts dedicated to airchecks from various radio stations through the years. A good many of them, specifically, are from the decades of the 1960s, '70s, and '80s.

Part of that era didn't just include the rock-n-roll, country, pop, and other formats common to what I call the Golden Age of radio, but there's another format that's basically been swept under the rug. The catch, here, is that the...

Why Case Would Rather Eat Peas And Legumes With A Spoon

At any table, forks do serve a purpose.

But if you look at the big picture, what good is a fork after you have meat for your main course and then cake or pie for dessert? Well, here's what The Case approaches with his dinner selections whenever he is at the table.

Foods must suitable for a fork:

Any meat (some will need assistance from a knife)
Seafood
Green beans
Asparagus
Squash
Tomatoes (sliced)
