Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Statement Game: Texas Longhorns Beat The Alabama Crimson Tide

Posted 09-09-2023 at 09:08 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This was one of those "You never know..." games. The Texas Longhorns football team was due to do something big, and what better way to pull off such a feat than in a game against a future Southeastern Conference opponent?

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was the scene of the crime --- er, game! Certainly nothing wrong with an upset like this, but Alabama's Crimson Tide fell to the Texas Longhorns in today's (at this writing) matchup by a final of 34-24. ...

The Heat Is On? It Might As Well Be If Your A/C Is Not Right

The Case abode is getting too hot now. Never mind that I'm still the swingingest, most good-looking bachelor on City-Data , but this isn't the kind of hot I'm referring to.

I'm talking about my air-conditioning system, which, until yesterday, had provided cool air. Now, for some reason, the temperature inside my apartment has been consistently above 80 degrees. Fortunately, I've got a maintenance guy up here to untangle this hot mess. He just told...

Case's Thought For The Day: Staying At The Computer Too Long?

Posted 09-04-2023 at 08:18 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Here comes another Thought For The Day, when you think you've caught up on life just by looking at the internet. Well, that's true, until this writer ends up running into the following. It's right here:

Life is what happens when you're not looking at a screen.

Perhaps no one's watching, either.

Remember When There Was A Telethon Going Into Labor Day?

Posted 09-03-2023 at 10:27 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Yes, it's been a long time. Many years ago, Jerry Lewis did what became a TV staple, not to mention a traditional Labor Day staple.

It's been a long time ago when Labor Day weekend meant that that MDA Telethon graced the airwaves. According to the calendar, it's now been nine years since the very last telecast, even though it occurred without Jerry Lewis. For much of its run, the program typically lasted 21 hours or so, and through the years, so much money was...

Americans, Please Don't Drink The COVID Mask Kool-Aid

Posted 09-03-2023 at 06:08 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There's no way Americans could possibly buy into this again. No way. Not after what our country had gone through in 2020, and certainly not after the hot mess endured the last three years as corrupt Washington has worked overtime to lose trust from our citizens.

Even the CDC is not really going to get involved this time around.

By now, you've heard rumblings from hither and thether that there may be another outbreak of COVID in the U.S. Folks, I can tell...
