Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Peak Season At Work: Time For Some Overtime

Posted 09-30-2017 at 08:22 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Even after one year in Customs Brokerage at work, I am still learning the phases of volume that my portion of the industry faces each season. Ordinarily, at this time of the year, volume tends to be higher, and so, many of the folks in my work area will be working higher amounts of overtime as we head info fall, toward Christmas.

Yours truly will also be diving in. In the parlance of departmental expectations, it's that time of year again. I expect the overtime...

They Were Further Along With This Than I Thought

This writer decided it was time for a brief road trip. I was in no way about to let gas prices or tight money get it the way. Even though I will have an actual vacation in less than four weeks, there's no way I could resist.

Basically, it's this road junkie in me that had to. So, this morning at daybreak, I was off and running. Central Texas was the place this time, and Interstate 14 was the road taken. Why? Because the road's assurance markers were up...

Two National Days Of Burgers --- Can You Say "Yowza!"?

Posted 09-18-2017 at 07:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

That calendar of strange holidays can be your best friend sometimes. It's true if what you crave comes in the form of its own national day.

What became the case for the subject at hand is just that. Friday was National Double Cheeseburger Day. Sounds good to me. It was followed three days later by National Cheeseburger Day. And what did this writer do on both of those days? He took full advantage.

Hey, what's not to love about...

Astros Have An Opportunity To Celebrate The Way It Should Be

Posted 09-17-2017 at 08:09 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The real celebrating wouldn't have happened anyway where yesterday was concerned. The Houston Astros, after all, did their part in an afternoon game with an 8-6 win over the Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park. All they needed was a Los Angeles Angels loss to the Texas Rangers. It should be noted that the bad thing about the timing of the two games would not lend itself to a proper Houston celebration. If only the Astros had played at night and the Angels earlier that day in Anaheim....

YouTube Embeds No Longer Supported On Some Browsers

Posted 09-11-2017 at 08:03 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Funny how technology and hidden rules can play with people's emotions. They also have ways of preventing participation in a certain forum.

My livelihood on the Music forums (if that's a term you can give it) is the YouTube embed. It's not all there is, as sometimes, I've got to explain or analyze a song or an artist, or give some other commentary appropriate to the post at hand. I mentioned that there's a problem; here it is: I may have to use an alternate web...
