Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Small Towns Need To Make A Comeback

Posted 11-05-2017 at 11:23 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There's something quintessential about the American small town. Many places have kept up quite well and have enough things within its confines to remain standing and not dry away and die. Other places? Well, they haven't, for one reason or another.

When you drive through a small town, it's not just an oasis after a long drive in the countrysides. It's not just a drink of Coca-Cola after a long scurry through a desert. It's not just a restroom stop (provided,...

The Funny Little Duck Crossing Signs Now Appear Near My Abode

Posted 11-02-2017 at 05:22 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You would usually see these types of signs in residential areas, sometimes on smaller thoroughfares. They're yellow, and they've got a large duck walking, followed by smaller ducks.

Personally, I think they look a little like chickens when you glance at the sign from further away, but that's not important now.

Still, you've got to love those goofy signs warning travelers that ducks really do abide in the area you're walking or driving in, and will...

Houston Has Game 6 To Lean On --- And The Prize Within Reach

Posted 10-30-2017 at 08:34 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

No, I don't want to jinx it. That's the reason I purposefully decided not to make World Series predictions. If the Houston Astros win it all, then I can make bold predictions about my team in the future. Not now. Not while an elusive championship remains at stake.

And right now, these Astros are up on the Los Angeles Dodgers three games to two, with Game 6 looming in L.A. One more win, and it's over. Justin Verlander stands by as I speak and you read, awaiting...

A Decoration Declaration For One Of My Neighbors

Posted 10-30-2017 at 08:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Somehow, I just couldn't save this next real-life item for my next Scattershooting (which, hopefully, will come up shortly and in due course), but this really couldn't wait. And this was spotted as I was pulling into the apartment after having some Texas barbecue out with dear old Mom.

It's still October, but guess what this writer spotted downstairs from my abode? Did I mention that (at this writing) it's still October? My new neighbors have already put up...

Get Your Popcorn Ready: Hannity Movie Comes In Second

Posted 10-30-2017 at 07:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 10-30-2017 at 07:23 PM by case44

I heard some fantastic news on Sean Hannity's radio show earlier today. His staff was excited at the recent box-office results of Sean's new movie, "Let There Be Light", with Kevin Sorbo (of Hercules fame). Try second place among all movies, regardless of number of screens.

It finished in second place. When you see all of the things going on in Hollywood and all of the garbage continuing to be put out on a weekly basis, not to mention the lack of ideas,...
