Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Could The Astros Actually Become Sellers This Time Around?

Posted 06-02-2024 at 08:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Houston Astros just don't scare their opponents anymore. Whatever amount of mojo this franchise once had is now all but gone.

The team just lost another series at home. It was the Minnesota Twins who just won that three-game series against Houston, two games to one. Minute Maid Park saw the Astros draw three million fans last season, and rightly so. It was the first time since the aughts that that type of thing has happened, and it came in the wake of a resounding...

Fierce Weather In Texas The Hardest I've Seen

Posted 05-28-2024 at 06:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Make no mistake about it. I've lived here in Dallas my entire life, and this spring's storm season has got to be the most brutal that I've ever seen.

If you've watched those cable weather networks, then chances are, you'll see exactly what I mean. When I went to work early this morning, what would transpire would be some of the wildest conditions I've seen since a tornado came within a few blocks of blowing away my office some twelve years ago. Wind gusts ranging from...

Case's Vacation Journal: Another Hub In Our Midst

Posted 05-24-2024 at 06:55 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Your writer has learned a few new things in his latest travels. I've been seeing the words Hub City slathered over many businesses, visitor literature, and even car dealerships. In previous blog posts on this outlet, you have seen the words Hub City be applied to a particular city in West Texas which this writer had made y'all lactate on.

There's one problem here. I just most recently have revealed that my latest venture is in Louisiana, so it's safe to say that God...

Setting The Table For A Few Alligators

Posted 05-17-2024 at 07:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just think: In a few short days, your writer will be eating alligator in one place and making eye contact with a few others. Must be time for another road trip.

Case has Cajun Country on his mind, and so, that's where I head to on Sunday. Louisiana is home to alligators, zydeco, and meat pies. So will my dinner tables on America's roads. And I've decided to visit a swamp and take a tour of one. After a return visit to Natchitoches, I'll head down...

More Highway Talk: OKC Sees New Interstate Signage On Turnpikes And Other Roads

Posted 05-12-2024 at 03:58 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Unlikely, you say. This writer and road fanatic swore he hasn't heard any rumors, but he didn't expect this.

You see, the Oklahoma City road landscape has significantly changed in a big way. Some of the existing roads now have new designations. I'd never seriously think this would happen, and I thought there might have been rumors previously about such changes like I'm about to share. Regardless, back in March, the powers that be have determined the...
