Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

One Thousand Blog Posts, And I'm Not Stopping

Posted 11-16-2017 at 08:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Nine years ago, City-Data started a new trailblazing idea to provide an outlet for forum members to lend everyone our writing skills. And our thoughts. And whatever other ideas we had.

The result was this cozy arcade we call the blog pages. Web logs, if you will, because that's what they are. Nine years ago, this writer's playground began, and not long after it started, this writer took the plunge. At the time, I'd only been on City-Data as a member...

A Crazy Idea For A Radio Station

Posted 11-15-2017 at 07:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 11-15-2017 at 08:52 PM by case44

This grappling was kicked around the water cooler recently, but it needs now to be brought to the forefront. Through the pages of time, radio has evolved in many ways. It used to be, back in the day when radio really meant something, that call letters of stations meant everything. One example is a station in Oklahoma City that had the call letters KEBC, which stood for Keep Everybody Country. Or, perhaps, another one, WBAP in Fort Worth, which stood for We Bring A Program....

Honk If You've Seen This Before

Posted 11-13-2017 at 02:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I actually had some spare time on Saturday morning after breakfast, and I was on my way to the Frisco Community Parade when I came upon an intersection in Frisco where some young ladies, spread out at two corners, were praising God.

This was really cool. I saw them holding up signs compelling drivers to honk their horns if they believe that Jesus loves them. Many did at the intersection of Main Street and Preston Road. I was among them. Why not? It was just...

Scattershooting Again / Let The (Potato) Chips Fall Where They May

Posted 11-08-2017 at 08:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

While we stand in glad anticipation for a turkey to be carved somewhere near you, warm felicitations to all for this, another Scattershooting. As it's two weeks until our annual fowl play, you'd probably want to peek at what it's taking to get you there.

********

I stopped by a local grocery store in the very hopes that I would pick up some Reser's scalloped potatoes in the frigid confines of said grocer. Well, this writer took a look, and all they...

Astros Bask In Success: Sports Illustrated Got It Right

Posted 11-06-2017 at 07:46 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You just had a gut feeling when you saw that Sports Illustrated cover a few years back. You know which one. You know, the one with George Springer on the cover and proclaiming the Houston Astros as the 2017 World Series champions. And this was because of a major rebuilding project that stockpiled so much talent in a short period of time.

Who knew at the time?

Yet, Astros fans such as myself, well, we had that gut feeling that it was going...
