Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Congress Finally Did Something, And America Wins

Posted 12-22-2017 at 08:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Didn't you get the feeling that, sooner or later, the Republican tides would turn and that there would be a common bond? Well, it happened. It finally happened, and now, there is a unity unlike any I've seen in years. The gravy is officially on the biscuits and, this time, it's the Senate holding the spoons.

If you'd have predicted a few months ago that Congress would get a tax cuts bill passed, I'd have asked you, "What weed have you been smoking?"...

Perhaps We Can Just Wear What We Eat

Posted 12-17-2017 at 09:35 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

In my previous post, I talked about what things I'd rather get on me than glitter. You know, things like barbecue sauce or maple syrup or things that usually cause stains on important pieces of clothing.

Now, you knew that I was speaking hypothetically. Confetti and glitter are annoying enough. Food, on the other hand....

Well, if you're on a date, then forget it.

I'm constantly reminded of things I've said whenever I sit at a...

All That Glitters? Not If You're Trying To Keep It At Bay

Posted 12-13-2017 at 07:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

'Tis the season for Christmas card giving, and it is in progress as we speak. So, this time around, I got two card styles. One of them has some glitter in the design, and the other doesn't.

And this writer was hoping for neither of them to have glitter. Guess it's just one of those things when you leave a Hallmark store.

There are other things that I'd like to get on me. Barbecue sauce. Chili. Maple syrup. Eternity by Calvin...

My Two Cents About The Realignment Rumor Mill

Posted 12-08-2017 at 04:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When a school district has more than eight high schools in it, you have to expect a little controversy when change is in the offing. We stand two months away from the biennial University Interscholastic League realignment for athletics, and as always, the rumor mill gets a-flurry with much activity.

This next round could be the most intriguing ever in Texas history. Class 5A is going to feature two tiers based on enrollment, Division I and Division II. Instead of...

December, Feliz Navidad, Remembering Things, And Merle Haggard

Posted 12-04-2017 at 05:44 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 12-04-2017 at 07:59 PM by case44

I could have listed a few more things, but I would have run out of precious space in the title spot.

You now know what month of the year this is. The to-do list tends to get a wee bit bigger. Christmas cards, Christmas card lists, gift lists, gift wrapping, bringing out the Christmas tree, luncheons at work, Jose Feliciano, Merle Haggard, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Santa, Rudolph, Charlie Brown, the Grinch, band concerts, drives through...
