Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

This Year's Easter Date Is No April Fooling

Posted 03-29-2018 at 04:40 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

My goodness, did anyone see a quirk in this year's calendar? It's almost as if the powers that be just wanted to play a practical joke on us. For the first time since 1956, Easter will fall on April 1. That's right, and that's also April Fool's Day.

And the next time it happens after the one we celebrate this Sunday, it will be 2029. So, enjoy your Easter holiday. You may want to try holding off on the fool jokes this time around until, say, next...

Too Bad D/FW Didn't Try This Idea Before

Posted 03-25-2018 at 08:03 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

They've never done it before. And they still haven't. Dallas-Fort Worth's media market has never had a local, 24-hour news channel on cable.

Oh, they've once had Texas Cable News, but that was more of a state effort by the company formerly known as Belo. And we've seen Houston with an actual 24/7 local news channel on broadcast television some twenty years ago (Remember KNWS-TV, Channel 51, as it used to be?). Never got to see much of it, but I heard it...

Is is that time again? By golly, I do believe so. I've got some more Scattershooting for all to read right here on City-Data, where it's great to be alive. And even the Easter Bunny is about ready to bring eggs to all the good kiddos out there, but only if he can survive crossing Interstate 95.

So, here we go....

********

We go now from rabbits to ducks. Actually, we're going to the subject of weird dreams. Once upon a time,...

All Cracked Up? Something Wrong Happened At The Plant

Posted 03-22-2018 at 06:24 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Every now and again, there are stories that happen in life. And in restaurants, sometimes, even the craziest things can create memories, whether good or bad.

This one ranked in the purgatory and would be better thought about with humor. I was at Norma's Cafe in Frisco, Texas, the other night and sitting down to a bowl of Texas chili when a strange thing occurred. And this had to have been a first, at least for me, anyway. You know how these companies...
