Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain In Texas --- And Hopefully Stopping The Drought

Posted 10-24-2023 at 07:29 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Seems tough to believe that we're just a few weeks removed from 100-degree temperatures, and now, we're getting the very thing that Texas has been needing for some time.

Rain.

Coming back this morning (at this writing) from San Angelo after a few days of R&R, the rain was gently falling outside along U.S. Highway 67 as I took that road back home. Sometimes a sprinkle, and other times, steady. A stark contrast from the first few days of the trip,...

The Candy Machine Caper At Work

Posted 10-20-2023 at 05:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A day at work sometimes calls for a little something to nibble on after lunch. So, it came time for your writer to head over into the break room and grab something out of the vending machine.

I tapped my debit card on the sensor and typed in the number of the selection I was going to make. It had been a while since I had me a Kit-Kat chocolate/wafer bar, so why not? Yeah, that's the ticket. Time to break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar. The number of the selection...

Case's Thought For The Day: Quicker Than The Speed Of Light --- Or Something Like That

Posted 10-16-2023 at 07:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's time again for me to give us our Thought For The Day, which practically begs the question: Is there a light bulb popping up in your head?

Well, you can ponder that inquiry when you begin to realize that one has to think before he or she says anything. Maybe they need to change that light bulb. Here's today's Thought:

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Time For The Texas Two-Step: Astros And Rangers, And It's ALCS Time

Posted 10-11-2023 at 09:36 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I honestly didn't think that the Texas Rangers would get this far in the playoffs. You just can't underestimate Bruce Bochy and his way of pushing the right buttons and making things happen.

But, then, we all knew that the Houston Astros would get their marbles together, and now, here they are for a seventh straight trip to the American League Championship Series.

What do you get when these two teams get together? You get the Texas Two-Step. ...

Takeaways From Another Stop At Buc-ee's

Posted 10-08-2023 at 07:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This was just spur-of-the-moment on one of my days off from work. Did some driving around on a whim after meeting with a group from church for lunch. And that's another blog post right there, but let's first deal with what's really on my mind.

Along the way, I stopped at Buc-ee's in Melissa, Texas, and as anyone would expect on a Sunday afternoon (or any weekend afternoon), the parking lot and the gas islands were full of cars. I parked in one of the furthest-away...
