Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Warm greetings, once again, gentle readers! Guess who's back? And you know that it's time for more Scattershooting, where you get a potpourri of news, views, opinions, and other things that go into the soup of life. That's because life is what's covered in this chickenscratch, so let's gather around the computer campfire. Soup's on.

Masters Site Made Me Think Of The New Byron Nelson Site

Posted 04-09-2018 at 10:40 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

While it's a good idea that Southeast Dallas is trying to draw new business, it's questionable that it has to come at the expense of a very popular PGA golf tournament. And when the Byron Nelson yearly event was going on, it had what I believed was the perfect site for it, and that's the course at the Four Seasons Resort in Irving's Las Colinas district.

I was watching The Masters and always marveled at the well-kept, well-manicured greens at Augusta National. ...

There's Just Nothing Like Corn On The Cob

Posted 04-07-2018 at 05:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 04-07-2018 at 06:40 PM by case44

I had made it a point to do it, so that time came. This is one food item I don't do enough, but if I really wanted to dig in hard, then this is the time.

Ol' Case had some Green Giant corn cobbettes in the freezer, and the package of six had my name written all over them. Yes, every precious one. All six of them. I boiled some water after taking said cobbettes out of the package, and in they went. In a matter of minutes, your writer would have...

Astros Get To Celebrate World Series Title To Start The Season

Posted 04-03-2018 at 07:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Baseball's back at major league parks, and Minute Maid Park in Houston is no exception. In this case, however, Houstonians can brag that their hometown Astros are the champions to start a new season.

And last night and tonight, the fanfare, bells, and whistles were all part of the remembrance of a championship just accomplished.

We saw owner Jim Crane and his wife ride along with some Clydesdale horses just like in the beer commercials, and in...

Waxing More Nostalgia: Case Remembers Old Gas Stations

Posted 04-01-2018 at 08:28 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 04-01-2018 at 09:36 AM by case44

Whenever you'd get in your car and traverse this fruited plain, it used to be you'd often see classic signs of places where you'd get your gas pumped. Now, back in the day, before you had convenience store/gas stations/travel centers/truck stops, there was the full service gas station. You'd maybe stop inside and grab a bottle of sodie pop out of the machine, but, other than that, you basically would stay in your car while an attendant would pump your gas and clean your...
