Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Well, Here's A Special First For You

Posted 05-16-2018 at 07:54 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Life is full of many firsts and lasts. You could say that I'm this creature of habit, and every week, there's the usual routine. But there comes a time when a diversion comes my way, adding some spice to life and some differentness to the environs. And here's something that won't come around very often.

With Sirius XM promoting its new streamlining app, listeners are treated to free streaming for the next two weeks. For now, Ol' Case just has Sirius XM's...

Here I am again with more Scattershooting, where you can come on City-Data and find things out that you won't get anywhere else. And if that sounds more like promotional copy, then it's still true. This is the time and this is the place, and if I don't cover it, then it doesn't matter. So, let's grab those marshmallows for our computer campfire, and away we go!

Just When I Thought I DIDN'T Need Allergy Medicine....

Posted 05-10-2018 at 07:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

....Case just breaks down.

Last year, I actually got through May with just a little medicine, if any. The nasal flushes have actually helped. They still do today, of course, but this year, those grass pollens are starting to get a little more fierce. And today at work? I sneezed more times today than I have all month. Keep in mind that I happen to be the loudest sneezer at my office. I think on some days, some folks on the other side of a...

Frisco's Memorial High School Is Further Taking Shape

Posted 05-07-2018 at 10:43 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The campus is still dormant, but that doesn't mean that there's no new activity taking place. At Frisco's (Texas) Memorial High School, its new field house already has a few things going on, as the rest of the campus can't still be open to the public. The football team is getting together so that things can be sorted out regarding which position players can play this fall. Their mascot's name will be the Warriors, and the colors will be black and gold.

That's not the...

The Dallas Radio That I Never Knew

Posted 05-06-2018 at 10:09 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Looking up information on how Texas radio used to be is very fascinating. Sometimes, what you thought took place really didn't. And such was the case when I learned a little bit about Texas' first radio station.

It happened right here in Dallas. The first call letters in Texas were WRR, and for many years, those letters resided on 1310 AM in Big D. Well, that was from about World War II until the late 1970s, when KAAM took over that frequency, and later, ...
