Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Dallasites hither and thether will rejoice. Comfort food lovers will also rejoice. Norma's Cafe turns 62 on this day!

And to celebrate this momentous event, patrons are going to be treated to a special offer. This writer plans to take part in this, by the way. Three entrees, chicken-fried steak, meat loaf, and baked chicken with dressing, are all offered for $1.79 each, with mashed potatoes and green beans. They do this on every anniversary, and...

America Is Continuing Its Comeback, But Much More Needs To Be Done

Posted 06-25-2018 at 09:10 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As recently as two years ago, the average American wondered if there'd be any hope left in our nation. We were mired in economic, social, moral, and political crises left and right. Politicians in general (and not just those on the left) were ruining this country and not serving the people who voted for them. And we had, perhaps, the absolute worst presidential administration that this writer had ever seen. Disturbing images were all over our television screens of the corruption,...

I-69 Update: Progress Slow, And Funds Needed

Posted 06-25-2018 at 08:21 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Never mind what Interstate 69's Texas Alliance website has suggested, in that it has not been updated in more than a year with some kind of headline. I know, for a fact, that there is road work going on in Texas on I-69's proposed path in a few places.

I was just in Houston, and some further progress has been made on signage. Still, however, much needs to be done there. Exhibit A is State Highway 242's approaches to the interstate in New Caney, where the new...

Thoughts And Observations From Houston Trip 2018, And A Lucky Break

Posted 06-24-2018 at 10:48 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It was the kind of vacation that only a novelist would write, but I have to thank God just for the opportunity to go. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

First of all, did you see the weather reports this last week? My, my, my, how things happen. A slow-moving tropical disturbance which didn't move into Mexico decided to play with people's emotions along the Texas Gulf Coast. Your writer was as vigilant as ever, and it was just for my...

Houston, I'm Comin' To See You....Well, Just For Now

Posted 06-18-2018 at 03:15 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just had to borrow Glen Campbell's song for only a moment.

Ol' Case takes to the road for food, fun, and...........fun. And 45. That's Interstate 45. This writer is Houston-bound and the Bayou City will never be the same once I've treaded on their freeways. Nonetheless, it's time for a week of relaxation. Kemah might get a visit, as will Galveston. And I can't wait to get back to Taste of Texas for another one of their legendary steaks. ...
