Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Community Impact Magazine Expanding Outside Of Texas

This particular magazine is a good read. It's also very informative. Best of all, you can actually get this online and not have to travel to Texas (for those of you outside of it). And this writer is just very glad that it all began when I stumbled upon an issue of this magazine years ago at a local library.

Community Impact is expanding its reach beyond the three largest Texas metropolitan areas. Already, it has "impacted" Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston,...

I Think I've Increased My Chances Of Possibly....

Posted 02-17-2019 at 08:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

.... just winning a little bit of lottery money.

I've given up on buying quick picks for certain Texas lottery games and decided, instead, on scratch-off tickets. The prizes haven't been big, mind you, but I've actually won ten dollars a few times. Just think: If I could win a little more often with this format, then I can only imagine the possibilities down the road....

Look, I'm going to be reasonable. Besides, I can't win if I don't...

I-69 Update: It Appears El Campo Bypass Is Half-Done

Posted 02-15-2019 at 08:33 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This writer can get addicted to Google Street View on Google Maps. So, this evening, I decided to take a peek at it. The focus, this time, is on U.S. Highway 59 and its bypass around El Campo, Texas.

Somehow, I don't remember seeing the western portion without at-grade crossings, but recent updates suggest that the highway has been upgraded to a full freeway. In fact, some guide signs have been placed on the freeway, some of them still covered up. So, ...

East Texas Gets Return Visit From Case

Posted 02-12-2019 at 03:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A little more than a month from now, Ol' Case takes to the road once again for more Texas travel. East Texas will be ground zero for this writer's latest excursions.

Tyler will be the place I drop anchor for a few days. I will spend some time in the Rose City and then will visit Jefferson for the first time. The latter has an historic downtown with a few museums and B&Bs. Now, if I had a little more money, I would extend the trip to include a return trip to Nacogdoches....

A Look Back At The Vape Store Meltdown

Posted 02-10-2019 at 11:55 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'm sure a few of you caught this crazy account on YouTube, but it's also been covered by Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity on their radio shows a few months ago. An incident had taken place in an Atlanta-area vape store. We watched either with horror or with humor that said incident apparently sparked, and it hit a nerve either way. Ian Furgeson was testing a counter guy, and all he was doing was minding his business and needing to buy some vape juice. And the counter guy refused...
