Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Thank You, Dale Robertson, For The Great Memories

Posted 03-24-2019 at 12:18 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I couldn't believe it when I read the headline in this special article taken from the Houston Chronicle. He's a writer that I wish I could have spent more time reading. I've read plenty, however, to let this gizzard influence some of my writing skills.

Dale Robertson, who is synonymous with Houston sportswriting, having written at the Chronicle and, before that, the now-defunct Houston Post, is retiring after 46 years of illustrious print. He's just an...

Hanging Of The Green? Actually, It's Spring Again

Posted 03-24-2019 at 10:38 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Some trees in my state already have green leaves on them. In fact, I've even seen a few trees that never really lost those leaves during the winter just past.

Now, we have moved into spring, my favorite season of the year. I'll just wait for the trees that still haven't sprouted to bring out the green. Last week, I spent a few minutes at the Tyler (Texas) Rose Garden. It would not end up as a long stay, as I was there to see a possible spring bloom. Nothing...

New DMS Up Now Between San Antonio And Fort Stockton

Posted 03-23-2019 at 08:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sooner or later, the Texas Department of Transportation was going to take their Intelligent Transportation Systems deployment even into some of the state's most remote areas. It was only a matter of time.

Yes, the heavier-populated areas usually get the spoils first. That's just how it is where the people live. If you were to go on to TXDOT's ITS sites, you wouldn't believe what they've done on Interstate 10 between San Antonio and Fort Stockton. There are...

Astros Extend More For Player Extensions

Posted 03-22-2019 at 08:07 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, Jeff Luhnow previously wasn't keen on doing extensions of players' contracts. In fact, he'd most often be reluctant to do one.

Now, he's faced with extending several Houston Astros players, a few of which already having done so. Jose Altuve was the first. Then Ryan Pressly. And now, Alex Bregman has a new lucrative deal to keep him in H-Town for at least six more years. The Astros' general manager/president of baseball operations, along...

I Know That Buc-ee's Sometimes Gets Too Crowded, But....

Posted 03-17-2019 at 08:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 03-18-2019 at 08:59 AM by case44

....today it really got overcrowded. Lots of Interstate 35 traffic today in Temple, Texas, on my way back from Austin following a Texas Longhorns 4-3 baseball win over Texas Tech.

All I wanted to get was some gasoline at Buc-ee's, but even with about 90 pumps, every car had occupied one. That's right, every single pump had a car by it. Oh, and there were a few pumps where at least two cars were waiting for someone to finish using it. Look, I...
